BOS/SAC/LAC - Jrue, DJJ, filler

Post#1 » by djFan71 » Sat May 17, 2025 10:36 pm

BOS in: Dunn, Eubanks, Miller
BOS out: Jrue, Tillman

LAC in: Jrue, Tillman
LAC out: Jones Jr, Brown, Dunn, Eubanks, Miller

SAC in: Jones Jr, Kobe Brown
SAC out: ?

Celtics save $22M. Have some contracts they'll probably need to unload to free up spots, though.
Clippers get Holiday to pair with their other vets.
Kings get a 3&D wing in their exception and a shot at seeing what Brown ends up as for a year with team option.

Not sure if a 2nd needs to go in any direction. Clippers may feel they'd rather just keep DJJ, but they also clear out the roster a lot, and peak next season Jrue still > peak DJJ.

Thoughts?

Jrue contract looks nasty and the clippers don’t need o get older without compensation. The title window is over

Celts front office knew about the 2nd apron when they signed Jrue's extension. And I love Jrue and he brought a championship to Boston. But the FO must have known this contract was gonna be a problem because of the apron penalties.
I don't know why they did it, they could have let it come to the summer. I guess they were scared he'd opt out leave and sign into Philly's capspace but Paul George surprised the NBA and couldnt get a reup from the Clips
There was really no reason to extend Jrue at that moment and the yrs and dollars are tough, tough looking at it right now

I love Jrue. But these years are his 34-38 age seasons... it's not a good contract and Celts did NOT need to offer it when they did

To be far the contract is for 34-37 age. 2 years and a player option left for his 35,36, 37 years.
It wasn’t that bad this year or next imo. 49th and 53rd ranked salary, but it is unlikely he lives up to the last two years. Yeah it makes you wonder about the dynamic of the ownership between Wyc and his father. When they put together that team it could have been get a championship and figure it out later (how to deal with the 2nd apron and repeater tax) or were they Ok with the big repeater tax bill for one year?
My assumption was they must have been willing to suck it up for a year and then make mover to get under the tax for 26/27. With the new ownership group maybe that changed and now with Tatum injured there is more urgency. But yes we all saw this coming and I expect Stevens and Zarren have several plans and they are smarter than us ( me at least)

Clippers taking on some long term money so they probably need compensation. It really depends if the Clippers want to make another run…does Harden stay etc.

Regardless if he stays we have seen the past two years the clippers are no fight for a title with the physical nature of their best two players. Kawhi can’t play a full season his knee blew up after 66 games. Harden playing a full season at the pace needed will have him blowup in the first round.

This is the only Clippers Holiday thread I could find. Resurfacing it rather than a new thread with the news today that the Clippers are interested in Holiday.
I don’t think it needs to be a multi team deal.
Clippers are far enough under the 1st Apron they can take back 125% of the Salary they send out.
I see two realistic deals. Bogdan and Jones or Bogdan and Eubanks and Dunn.
