Yep, I was pounding for that move for over a year. But the front office put too much stock into GG and VWill being able to return from injury and play well and Wells was way outplaying projections then. But GG and Vince never found their footing and Wells missed the playoffs. Wouldn't have mattered regardless against OKC, but maybe we could have got a better seeding with DFS swinging a couple of regular season games and got some injury luck in the playoffs and had a run like Minny did.
Memphis expecting GG to come in and play a 3+D role is baffling.
Obviously not a 3nD role for GG, but build off his rookies numbers was a possibility to give us an offensive spark off the bench would have been nice. The VinceW falloff was what really set us back last year, he was so good in the lost season the year prior... especially on D that many though he would be our starting SF most of last season. But he got injured in the preseason and never got his step back and his confidence seems liked it was lost when he finally come back later in the season. Still have high hopes that he can be a good rotation player for us next season, I personally think he is better than Wells.
The Vince and GG situations were completely mismanaged by the team and I’m almost certain there was some contention between Jenkins and the FO on their playing time.
They both missed a huge chunk of the first part of the season and were never given a chance to play themselves A. Back into game shape and rhythm, but B. They didn’t have time to develop any type of cohesion with Ja, Bane and JJJ or Edey.
They were played sporadically and in weird situations. I have high hopes for both and am almost certain that one of Wells, GG or Vince will develop into an above average starting wing.
Regarding a trade for AD….if we can get him for Bane, Edey and a 1st, I’d do it on a heartbeat. Yeah health would be a major issue, but a starting lineup of
Ja
Wells/Pippen Jr
Vince/GG
JJJ
AD
Is competing with anybody if healthy
