No reason for MIL to consider this. This is not close.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Not sure the point of that on this board. On a Celtics fan board? Probably a huge hit. This board is really going for something else though. If we all just made incredible homer trades all the time, why would anyone participate here?
It's not anything new I've been saying that for years.
So you are arguing you want Giannis at 35/36/37 at super max money? It's not a wild statement to say those might not be great 15-17th season values.
You just posted he has two years left on this deal plus a new deal of two years and you hate the worst 3. Thats got nothing to do with those ages.
So what I think you tried to say was 2 years on this deal then a new 5 year max of which you'd only like the first 2. Okay then. Worded that really poorly, but my bad for not catching that I guess. At this price you could just trade for the 2 years under contract and have come out way ahead. Then don't sign him to an extension if you are afraid of it.
But we don't get to set a fictional extension and a presumed decline to justify the Bucks just giving him to the Celtics now.
This is an identical carbon copy of a conversation we've had from maybe two years ago.
So it really doesn't have to do with where he plays that's just how I feel about it. But no one is paying the full freight for him for 1-2 years to have him walk that goes without saying imo and is a crux of this entire thread.

Yes teams would pay full freight for 2 years of Giannis. What are we even doing?

Disagree, teams get the full freight by trading the player where the player wants to go in the case of impending contract expiration.
Pretty much NBA trades 101, no?

No team can or will give up close to equal value for Giannis in a trade.
This is better value than Dallas got for Luka. Not sure how many teams can or would give up a top 25 player that is younger than Giannis.

I think Tatum makes more sense for both teams really. The money is perfect for both teams. Tatum takes the year off as Milwaukee lets some guys expire. 2 years from now they are Tatum and a ton of cap space.
Boston with White, Jaylen, Giannis looks great.
Ofc this comes down to Milwaukee wanting to get the best individual player possible for Giannis.

Would be better if Boston sent Jaylen to Milwaukee and you guys can take a year off with Tatum and Dame, your team actually has its own picks to tank

I'm not a Celtics fan lol. That said, in what world does injured Dame have anywhere near the value that Jaylen has?
And to be clear, I'm only suggesting Milwaukee does Giannis for Tatum if Giannis has asked out behind the scenes. Now maybe Giannis is happy wasting the next few years of his prime without Milwaukee having any real way to improve, but that's to be determined.

Well one I would sooner let Giannis walk than to gift him to Boston. Trading Giannis for a guy who he has was way better than before he blew his Achilles out is just an insane and foolish idea. In what world is post blown out Achilles Tatum worth even a fraction of Giannis?
Giannis has two more seasons under contract and would lose A LOT of money walking in free agency.

Well again my suggestion is thats the bones of the deal. I'd imagine Boston needs to add several picks to make this happen. And again this is if Giannis asks out, and Milwaukee would rather get a top 5-10 player, rather than a bunch of young guys from say SA or Houston.
I can't imagine Milwaukee holds him hostage if he asks out.

Re: Jrue Stays, Giannis Comes (to Boston, with BRK ofc)
My working of the deal trying to be more specific than OP as far as what the picks are and all:
BOS gives: Brown, Porzingis, Pritchard, Hauser, draft rights to #28 pick, ***all their future draft capital
BOS gets: Giannis
MIL gives: Giannis, PatC, Portis
MIL gets: Brown, Porzinigs, Pritchard, Hauser
3rd/4th teams give: nothing
3rd/4th teams get: PatC, Portis
(BOS has to pay the freight, if any, in future 2nds, though I do think these are valid MLE type targets)
*** all of BOS's future draft capital = '26 unprotected, '27 swap rights unprotected, '28 sap rights unprotected after SA's first right to swap, MIL choice if unprotected 2030 pick and 2031 unprotected swap rights or flip the years (MIL can also choose to swap which of 26/27 picks they get outright and swap as well, though it seems fairly obvious to do it the way I have it here, whereas 30/31 is a bit less obvious)
Celtics would end up back over when filling out the roster, but the $47M they save here actually puts them under the tax momentarily. So no issues executing this move financially for them. My guess is they could work it out to keep Horford/Kornet and use the taxpayers MLE on a stop gap SF.
MIL right now is $28.1M below the 2nd apron with 10 players signed. This uses up $24.1M of that cushion while filling one of those open roster spots. Add in $2.8M for the #28 pick and it's $26.9M used up with 2 spots to fill. Might take some creative back of the roster math, but they can probably make that work under the 1st apron hard cap. Maaaaybe have to keep PatC and send Hauser into a TPE somewhere instead. Their starters would be.
Pritchard
Brown
Hauser or PatC
Kuzma
Porzingis
I don't see how this would be the high offer though in a world where SA/HOU/BRK are out there. However, I do think that in a world where Giannis for whatever reason won't extend with those teams (which is probably fair w/ BRK but not others) that this offer could be competitive with the next tier of teams presumably vying for him (Knicks, MIA). Even with Tatum out for a year I could see Giannis liking the basketball fit too. But overall, just very unrealistic.

This is terrible, that Bucks team is MAYBE a fringe playoff team. Boston simply does not have the assets for Giannis and if Giannis did want out it’s not to another team where #2 blew his Achilles out.

Boston doesn’t have valuable picks, it’s not going to make up the difference. Who knows if Tatum is a top 5-10 talent when he returns but he was not Giannis value when healthy. Horst would need secret service protection if he dealt Giannis for another guy with an Achilles tear
Making him play out his contract is not holding him hostage, there has been no indication that Giannis has any interest in a trade and it’s just been baseless speculation from ESPN “insiders” because there are no other interesting narratives this offseason.
