Magic should just unload the boat for Derrick White. With how much better he’s gotten over the last few years, I think he’s still on the uptrend even at 30 as his games not reliant on athleticism and he’s consistently improving his shot and finishing ability. He could hopefully do for Orlando what he did in Boston and become the perfect fit next to 2 ball-dominant wings while elevating their already elite defense to another level.

His contract, play style, fit, and versatility make him the perfect fit in Orlando. He’d make 10 times the impact of anyone I’ve seen listed so far, and Orlando could probably snag him for a package based primarily around picks and cap savings. The sticker price wouldn’t be as egregious as the Mikal trade, but casual fans would probably be surprised how much it would take.

With Paolo, White, and Franz, Orlando would have one of the best big 3’s in the NBA overnight (assuming Paolo and Franz continue to trend in the right direction) for 4-5 years? He’d make less than Suggs over that timeline which would make it financially viable to keep them together over that timeline even with Paolo’s impending supermax. If Orlando wants to go all in around their 2 young stars, I don’t know if there is a single better fit in the league.

suggs will make less last 3 yrs of 5 yr deal he gets under 30 then under 27 last 2 yrs when white gets 33 and 35...8 mill a yr extra..but i do like fit

Thanks for pointing that out. Didn’t realize his contract was decreasing. I just went to the BR cap page and $35M was in the 2025-26 slot and I didn’t scroll right. It doesn’t change my opinion on the fit though. The Magic can’t build around 3 guys who are below average shooters from 3.

They also shouldn’t replace Suggs with a guy like Trae or Simons who take the ball out of the hands of their young stars and have a clear target on their back defensively. Without being able to realistically land a guy like Steph, Brunson, or SGA, I think White is legitimately their best target if the intent is to win the next few years.

I think Orlando is past the point of heavy investment in developing raw rookies and is looking for something more “proven”.

So no, I don’t think they do this unless it’s for someone like Harper and even then it’s a bit unlikely.

The point would be to pair Suggs with Reaves. Reaves *current contracts help Orlando stay under the apron so the need of moving Suggs wouldn’t be so prominent. Fitting Garland WITH Suggs seems a bit less likely and more problematic.

Simons is an undersized SG, playing PG that lacks playmaking skills and is a cone on defense. Similar to McCollum/Sexton/White etc.

Simons would be an upgrade over what Orlando has currently, but I don’t think we should be looking at him as a starter with this team and his archetype is not what this current team needs as a “point guard”.
