LAL/OKC

Post#1 » by scoobs07 » Thu Jun 12, 2025 3:34 pm

LAL gets: #15 and #24 picks in 2025 draft

OKC gets: 2031 LAL 1st, 2030 LAL swap, 2028 LAL swap, 2026 LAL swap, and #55 pick in 2025 draft

Why for LAL?
They need bigs and they need 3 and D. Can't rely on trades and free agency. Several teams might feel a certain type or way about dealing with LAL: i.e. DAL, CHA, POR, UTA, CHI, BOS, etc. Also, if LAL trades for a big, it would be hard to also get one on free agency, with the starting spot potentially taken up by said traded for player. As far as 3 and D, these type of players are better to get in the draft and develop them. It's hard to trade for them or sign them.

Why for OKC?
Roster is already virtually full and have Topic coming in next season. Invest the picks for a later date. 2031 LAL could be valuable. Also OKC likely better than LAL in 26 and 28 so the swaps are good, and LAL might also br trending down in 2030, so that swaobis also valuable.

By comparison, last draft, MIN got #8 from San Antonio for a 2031 1st and 2030 swap.

The Lakers should never consider doing this. You don't want to hand over your draft to the team you are trying to chase for a couple of middling picks to get players unlikely to help much during the Lebron window.

Presti giggles at his good fortune again and says yes really fast, but LA should never.

I think all the swaps should be taken out.

You made a trade for picks with Reaves, this isn't what the Lakers need.

Or leave one “top 5 protected” swap in and have okc send 3-5 of their future real 2nds that aren’t necessarily the highest value, but scattered over a bunch of future years for flexibility? Get LA some other assets they might need to be able to trade or grease some wheels?

The cost of acquiring Pheonix’s unprotected 2031 1sts was 3 “lessor of” 1’s.

So this trade needs to be changed to have an extra pick going to LA and all the swaps removed.

LA would only consider this if breaking up the value of the 31 1st is needed to facilitate another trade (ie 15 plus Kelebers contract for a starting C) which allows them to keep #26 to add a player and still have a lower value future pick for a trade.
