Suns-Wolves :: Durant to Wolves

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Sun Jun 15, 2025 8:55 am

Suns get Randle, Naz (SnT - 18m)

Wolves get Durant

Suns are said to be trying to put O'Neale or Grayson in to capspace. That move allows them to stay under 1st apron and do this trade.

Wolves can stay under 2nd apron even with this trade but they lose NAW.

I like it...
Pistons could use either Royce or Allen, but PHX will need to pay to dump Royce

Yeah I think Allen might be the one to move as they are already looking good at SG. Leaves them with this squad:

Beal, Booker, Dunn, Randle, Naz
O'Neale, Oso, Richards, #29, #52

They have $13.6m to spend on the remaining 4-5 players.

I like it...how much space does Houston have? Could they eat Allen? He'd fit in nicely there.

Oh yeah, more salary need to go out to a 3rd team here.

If PHX receives a player in a sign-and-trade, they would be hardcapped at the first apron. As you mention, they may be trying to turn Grayson Allen into cap space to operate as a 1st apron team, but this would lock them in on that path.

I would also point out that zimpy cleverly has Naz signing at $18 mil. If he signed a new deal for much more, it would trigger BYC issues for MIN, where he’d only be worth $9 mil in outgoing salary. That’s a big deal, because if MIN didn’t send out more money than they received, it would hardcap them at the first apron. BYC is also why NAW deals don’t work, since his next deal will almost certainly be worth more than 120% of his previous, $4.2 mil salary.

For a deal like this to work, it would likely require a third team, not only to receive the Naz sign-and-trade, but likely to send out a cheaper player to PHX, so both MIN and PHX don’t take back more than they send out, and hardcap themselves at the first apron.
