I think gap between Bane and Lauri is 2 FRPs.

Bane has been consistently impactful for several seasons. Efficiency stays the same even without Ja, even when usage increases.
Lauri has been inconsistent and injured and is coming off a rough season.
Bane also costs about $10m less per season than Lauri.

I'm all in favor of trading Lauri, but not for this. I also don't see a value gap of 2 1sts at all even with what happened last season. There is no high-variance asset, no good prospect, all the players coming back are neutral at best contracts, Clarke is a terrible fit, Cole is a terrible fit, and KCP needs to be flipped somewhere else.

The FRPs are unprotected. They are pretty juicy. Choose 2 of the below:
2026 is likely the Suns FRP (likely top 10).
2028 and 2030 are unprotected Magic FRPs, who knows what Magic look like then, if they are injured, etc. 2030 is absolutely high variance unprotected.
Cole, KCP, Clarke can all net interest from other teams at the deadline.

Not sure if you’re aware that the new GM is Ainge Jr. I doubt any self preservation issues are relevant anymore. Either Orlando overplayed or the market/valuation for 2nd tier guys is going up due to the new CBA. I’d be fine with two good FRP’s for Lauri though.

If Utah was competing or in a spot like Orlando I wouldn’t be looking to even more him, but given the point of rebuilding Utah is in (IMO this was year one of the tank and it needs to be at minimum a three year tear tank to work) I am open to moving Lauri.

I read the wrong pick protections. I think the value is fine for Utah, but I do think Orlando overpaid for Bane (and also that he is not worth significantly if any more than Lauri).

Is demand the Phoenix pick though. Utah had to many picks in the future. Need a chance at more possible high picks next season.

The 2026 Orlando first is just the Phoenix first most likely.. no real clutter on it?

If Phoenix wins the lottery, then Memphis gets Washington’s pick - and they’ll be trying to be a bottom 4 team again..

Realgm updated the picks owed it looks like, I looked at the 2026 pick owed to Orlando which is the worst of all those picks. Yah, if it is the Phoenix first I think this trade is fine. I disagree on the difference between Bane/Lauri in value, but if Orlando overpays for Bane that is their issue.

Orlando owned a swap off the worst of Phoenix/Washington. So Memphis has a nice draft pick in 2026..

And I think Bane has more value? 9-10mil a year cheaper, maybe not that much more but more.. And Orlando overpaid.. Utah could wait and hope to find a team willing to do that.

Magic have overpaid because of the 2026 FRP I think. But they did it because Bane is prefect for their team and he's locked up on a 23% contract for several years. I think they just wanted that last perfect piece.

Suggs-Bane-Franz-Paolo-WCJ--JI are locked up for 4 years at 110% cap.
Black and one of Goga or Mo will also be locked in. Their playoff squad just needs time and experience now.

The Jazz are better off keeping Lauri than to move him for this.

I doubt Memphis has any meaningful interest in Lauri

Memphis is better off with the picks than lose them for Lauri who has never and will never be able to spell playoffs
