What are we actually giving up in value?

The #4 pick. People around the league don't care for Miles Bridges.

Yes, the 4th pick is way more valuable than Durant.

I disagree

KD is still a all-nba talent despite his age.

I would say a top 2 pick is off limits Flagg/Harper. I think VJ/Ace is a toss up they could be really good or they could be average. I would take my chances with KD over those guys.

He turns 37 at the start of the season. How many years of an all NBA Durant will you get? 2? 1? 0? More importantly, will he extend in Charlotte? Or if he still has gas in the tank will he leave in 2026 for a team he actually wants to play for?

You read nothing in my original post when I clearly answered those questions lol

I think what is there is the same kind of logic that the Hornets have followed for the last two decades. Short sighted. I stoll remember when the board came down hard on Charlotte for the Hayward contract and it led to the exact outcome non Charlotte fans assumed it would (and some Charlotte fans, too).

I don’t get why Charlotte would do this though. Ball hasn’t proven he’s capable of staying healthy, KD likely won’t play all 82 games and there isn’t enough to replace production of either guy in event of an injury. In a perfect, all things go right season you probably top out as a first round exit, maybe eeking out a trip to the 2nd round. Odds are you’re struggling to be a play-in team though.

I'd actually prefer to flip the #4 pick to Washington for #6 + #18 or Brooklyn for #8 + #19 & #27.

Draft Maluach and add some more young guys to fill out the roster. I get that the Suns have no control over their own picks, and that flipping the pick for a win-now player makes them stronger in the short term, but I'm mostly concerned with the Suns being in a good position in '27 when Beal expires. They'd have Booker and a bunch of rookie contracts on their books + capspace.

I really don't hate this idea at all for Charlotte. I know fans love building thru the draft, but Charlotte has been building thru the draft since 2004! Where has that ever gotten them?! The #4 pick in a weak draft like this is 50/50 to pan out. Even if it does, its not likely a superstar.

Lamelo, Miller, KD, Mark Williams should atleast make for a fun team to watch. The biggest issue with that group is all 4 of those guys have had major availability issues, so getting all 4 in the lineup together might be hard to pull off for long stretches.

Of course, this is just a fun exercise anyway, as theres no way KD would approve.

Yeah. You don't view that as a lot?

The Suns are praying some sucker team gives up this kind of value for KD while the Spurs/Heat/Rockets are baulking at the asking price. The Hornets don't want to be that sucker. It's a dead end.

KD isn't interested in playing there, so this is DOA. Horrible for Charlotte too obviously.

KD doesn’t have to be interested in playing in CHA. He can leave as a FA if he wants out at the end of the year. Kawhi wasn’t very interested in playing in Toronto, either.

I think this idea is crazy. However, it could be crazy brilliant.

Would do this for Suns, if I was GM.

KD would have to want to play there though. He hasn't nominated Charlotte.

Kwahi at the time was better than current KD, Toronto had at least an outside chance at a title (and a better chance at a finals run) while Charlotte is just chasing a 1st round and out playoff appearance, and Charlotte's still giving up arguably more than Toronto did.
