Proposal Bos/Brk: Simmons and Picks for Johnson

Post#1 » by brackdan70 » Tue Jun 24, 2025 8:51 pm

Bos in BRK out: Cam Johnson
Bos out BRK in Anfernee Simons, 2026 Boston frp (unprotected) and 2031 frp lotto protected and turns into a 2nd if not conveyed.
Why for Boston: add a solid player that fits with Tatum, Brown, White timeline. They give up some quality assets for the trade off of remaining very competitive.
Why for Brooklyn: get younger with a guy that may be worth keeping long term and add two solid assets.

Alternatively could replace the 2031 pick with Hauser or add him to the deal (structured as a separate trade for the Celtics)

Nets should do this. I would say the 26 1st should be top 4 just in case and the 31 should also be top 4 so its likely Brooklyn gets it, but still protects Boston from disaster.

Not crazy about it for Boston.

Good points on the protection.
Are the two picks too much? It seems one pick isn’t enough but maybe.
Or are you not a fan of Cam in Boston?

Don't think this is the summer for Boston to give up future draft capital to upgrade the roster. East is wide open, but I can't see them making any move that would make them a title contender without Tatum

I think you got the value about right. I just am not sold on Cam as much as some others.

I don't think the '31 1st should be in there. Expiring salary and a 1st round pick that will be resulting from a team that plays their season with a "meh" role player like Cam Johnson as their third best player (assuming Porzingis dealt) is enough value for Cam Johnson IMO. But BRK might disagree of course, in which case I just move on.

I'd rather BOS just take their medicine and duck all the way below the tax this year if they can vs. give up picks for players.

That’s fair. I heavily protected 2031 because I thought value was somewhere between a first and 2 firsts.

Yeah I’m not doing future draft capital for a fairly average starter who is essentially a stop gap.

If that’s the route just figure something out with KP going to San Antonio for Barnes and such.

I like Cam. He’s obviously better than Barnes but not so much better I’m moving my own future draft picks.

Would the Nets be interested in just taking Simons into their cap space for a protected 2nd? Getting Cam over-complicates things for the Celtics financially, and if we move off Jrue’s money completely we could keep Porzingis and potentially Al/Kornet depending on whether or not we hold on to Hauser.

Celtics fans seem to be thrilled about the Simons pickup, but I would rather keep as much of the band together as possible while avoiding the 2nd apron. While I didn’t expect the Nets to be interested in the 3 years left on the Jrue deal without sweeteners going their way, getting a look at Simons on an expiring contract makes sense in my mind.

I think they will try to build a team that is a contender for when Tatum is back.
I can understand the rationale though not to trade draft capital

Doesn't make sense to spend that much draft capital for a guy who would be a backup when Tatum returns.
Even if Brown is traded, Cam Johnson is not a good fit next to Tatum. I would prefer either a big wing who can allow Tatum to play 3 like OG or someone with more shot creation.

Fair enough.
I may have overshot the value here a bit.

I also thought the OP forgot Ben Simmons was no longer on Brooklyn.
