Expanding to the Porzingis trade to include Milwaukee

Post#1 » by deviljets7 » Wed Jun 25, 2025 4:42 pm

Atlanta Trades: Mann, Niang, pick #22, CLE's 2031 2nd rounder
Atlanta Gets: Porzingis, least favorable 2026 2nd rounder from BOS
Why for Atlanta: Gambles of Porzingis, gets out of Mann's deal and maintains the flexibility to use its TPE on guard help. Exact same deal as reported by Shams.

Boston Trades: Porzingis, least favorable 2026 2nd rounder
Boston Gets: Niang, CLE's 2031 2nd rounder
Why for Boston: Saves an ungodly amount of money by getting under the 2nd apron. Exact same deal as reported by Shams

Brooklyn Trades: Cam Johnson
Brooklyn Gets: Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton, pick #22, MIL's 2031 1st rounder (top 1 protected)
Why for Brooklyn: Nets eat into some of its cap space now, but adds a potentially elite pick. Kuzma's deal is rough, but they get to re-route Mann while keeping the incentive to take him in the first place.

Milwaukee Trades: Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton, 2031 1st rounder (top 1 protected)
Milwaukee Gets: Cam Johnson, Terrence Mann
Why for Milwaukee: Upgrade at two spots and significantly improve its shooting as it tries to maximize its short term window in a suddenly wide open East.

I assume the idea here is that CamJo is enough outgoing salary to take back both Kuzma/PatC, so by expanding the BOS/ATL deal BRK technically doesn't have to dip into cap space to take back Mann. They use their cap and then officially execute this after via salary matching? Pretty smart maneuvering unless BOS/ATL have some need to do it in the old league year.

I don't think CamJo is worth MIL's 31 1st though. Not unless Giannis tells them trade that pick for CamJo or I want out, and there's no way he would care that much about Kuzma for CamJo one way or another for that to swing him.

I'm keeping Mann, Johnson, and 22 if I'm the Nets. Now, if the Bucks want three middling 1sts from this draft in exchange for that Bucks 31 pick unprotected, there's a conversation to be had.

That 2031 pick is way too much 'what if' from both sides. For MKE they're potentially giving up a top 3 pick to take on a guy worth a mid first. For Brooklyn they're potentially getting a 25th pick to pay 45 million dollars to Kyle Kuzma and give up a guy worth a mid first.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

This is the tricky thing with Brooklyn. With 5 first rounders and control of their own pick in 2026, lesser short-term assets aren't of much use here.

While the contract lengths are different, the total amount owed to Kuzma and Mann are basically a wash.

FWIW, the Nets would be keeping pick 22 in this trade.

The conversation to be had there doesn't involve BRK. It should be between the MIL GM and a sports psychiatrist lol
