Magic have no need for Hawkins with Jett and Jase developing there. Let's make it Matkovic instead. Cheap big depth who hustles and flashed some block and 3 pt. upside.

Alvarado + Matkovic
for
Goga Bitadze

Let's call it in! Makes sense for all sides.

Hawkins for Kris Murray?

Hmm, that's interesting. I was thinking Hawkins for Robert Williams III. Seems like a downgrade/lateral move for Pels, co aidering Murray was a lower pick and hasn't wowed so far. Could be something there tho

Mitchell Robinson and Tyler Kolek for Bey and Alvarado.

Pelicans roll the dice on a potential high-level defensive center. Worst case scenario, Bey and Alvarado are converted to a decent sized expiring for a (illadvised?) deadline move.

Rather than pray for Robinson's health, the Knicks cash him into two bench pieces. With the inclusion of Kolek, NY saves $4.5 million, which should allow them to use the Tax Payer MLE on the best replacement big they can get while staying under the second apron.

How about Mitch for Alvarado, Hawkins, Missi

If Pelicans want the straight swap and can do that straight across with the extra salary, Portland should be on board.

I’m not a fan of Queen at all, so trading their Pacers 2026 first along with an unprotected pick from us or the Bucks next year was infuriating. Hell, I’m not a fan of Fears either especially since I think he’s repetitive on a roster with Murray/Poole, but I’m used to being disappointed in Pelicans management.

The biggest problem with Fears is that to me he looks like a sure-fire all-star and my track record projecting point guards is like 1-36. I had Rubio(next J-Kidd they said!) and Flynn as stars and a great pairing due to offense/defense and Curry as a bad pick because "all he does is shoot"

Only one I got right was Kemba.

Needs: starting Center upgrade and/or upgrade at wing.

Probably won't be traded:
-Zion (low value and Dumars publicly said they're keeping him)
-Murray (low value and Dumars said today that Murray is 'all in on this team)
-Poole
-Trey Murphy (more valuable to winning on this roster than anyone they could realistically trade him for)

So that leaves these guys as the main moveable players for upgrades:

Alvarado 4.5m: just drafted Fears as small guard who should take the backup PG minutes

Hawkins 4.7m: probably not much value, but his salary could be used to match something, sliver of 'recent lotto pick' allure

Missi: only available if they can get a real starting Center level upgrade. As of now he's the starter, but is he starting level on real team?

*Herb: only available for a big upgrade at Center or better wing. Unlikely, especially now as the only plus defender on the roster.

Would love for the Knicks to get Hawkins. He is one of those guys where a bigger role would suit him. Comparing him to Allan Houston is fair in a limitations sense(poor defenders, lack of offensive creativity, not seeking the rim on penetration) and in a "categories where they are strong" (shooting, catch and shoot, finesse bag) sense, but obviously he has a ways to go to prove anything like that. He has already proven he can win in the Garden!

Best I can come up with Kolek, Mitch, Pac or McCullar for Missi, Hawkins, Bey.
Knicks get three plug and play bench contributors. Add a new Nova-Knick. i think with a change in coach, we can retain Payne and Shamet so that still leaves us with options at the point (and we can always call over our overseas kid). This also saves us on having to pay Mitch who really could be in the non-Victor DPOY conversation.
Obvious gain for the Pelicans is that you get someone who can effectively rim-run with Fears and can anchor a defense. Because you drafted a center, that means it can be a split job OR perhaps could be a double big situation (if you can envision Mitch and Queen pairing like Adams and Sengun).

Kolek is a legitimate passer/play maker, but obviously being buried on the Knicks who famously did not stray from the top of their rotation means he and his fellow developmental players don't have a lot of tape. Pac is obviously a flashy wing with great measurables, an affordable rookie deal, and has shown flashes, only 19 so plenty of room to continue to develop.
