They mention "dead money on their cap sheet"

Yes. from the article:
Work a buyout with the Toronto Raptors. In this scenario, Vezenkov would give back some or all of his $6.6 million contract for the 2024-25 season to become a free agent. He would still need to clear waivers upon a buyout, as listed above.

Here is Raptors cap sheet from 24/25 season, scroll down to dead money, you'll see Vezenkov there listed as 0
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/toronto-raptors/cap/_/year/2024

So, how this affects their ability to sign FAs, max they can offer in a deal, tax money...

I think they used the exception created in the MPJ to get, I'm not sure, so they lose that exception.
This year, it's 0 impact, since MLE alone covees the entiee room below the apron.

No, Saric has $5M, Valanciunas $10M

Matching rule for saric below 1st apron is x100%.

Saric can be used to match a salary up to 10.8M, which JV fits under

IF SAC did this solely for the savings (to sign Schroeder), couldn't they have just allowed Val to go (with league approval) just as easily as DEN?

They could have dropped $10m rather than 5...I just don't get the SAC side of this (as usual)

Denver should give Utah a call and see if they are interested swapping Kyle Anderson for Val.
Jazz could let Val out of his contract and save some money.
Nuggets get a player who could give the team more rotation minutes/ depth than with Val.

I like the idea, playmaker off the bench, Denver never had that.
Val/Nnaji for Nurkic also works, Nurkic isn't bad for 15MPG backup role.

I like SloMo but Nuggets need backup C.

Bruce Brown played backup PG in the playoffs. He is good enough ballhandler. When he was on the court with Jokic/Murray things worked pretty well. They used to spilt Jokic/Murray minutes, to always have one on the court, something Houston did with CP3 and Harden.

I don't think reunion with Nurkic would work, split wasn't nicest.

It looks like nobody knew anything about this situation at the time of trade talks. And it is still far from clear now.
Anyway, if Val wants to go and leave $10.4M, would Orlando be interested in some wariation of Val/Goga trade?
We could even take Jett Howard's contract in a deal if you want to dump him.

ORL gets Hauser, Queta (3pt sniper and properly priced bench C - ORL has Moe Wagner too)

DEN gets Goga Bitadze, Jett Howard (premium back up C & a wing prospect that might flourish with Jokic’s gravity)

BOS gets Valanciunas (save $13m)

I don't understand Denver here.
He doesn't want to play, he wants to go to Europe, and all indications are he is willing to forfeit his salary, what's with the insistence on keeping him?

Seems like Val agent didn’t expect him to have trade value. Now it’s a mess bc a contender traded for him.

Think ultimately. Val gets let free if they can find a deal to use his salary. I wouldn’t want a guy with sandbag potential on a contender. Who could just check out and not care.

I think they must want to use his salary in trade next offseason or even at deadline.

They want to use his salary in trade.

Aren't there easier solutions? They have their MLE to sign a player, they can trade for one.

I'm not sure how that works in season or next offseason.

But there are also better Cs they can get than Val too.

It requires some creativity, but having a contract of 10M that can be bought out at 0 (like Micic to MIL), is a valuable asset and can be leveraged in this period.
For some reason, they are adamant on forcing him to stay, I think they can do better than this.
