Wizards/Knicks (Wizards get their pick back)

Post#1 » by TGW » Thu Jul 10, 2025 6:25 pm

Wizards trade Champagnie, SRP (via MIN, NYK, NOP, or POR)

Knicks trade Kolek, Huk, Wizards FRP (1-8 protected)

Why for the Wizards: they get control over their pick, which allows flexibility in trades and also allows them to control the extent of their tank next season. This pick was probably going to convert to two SRPs.

Why for the Knicks: they get a rotation worthy young player in Champagnie, who for what it's worth, was the Wizards most reliable player last season. He also fits in the Knicks culture as a hard nosed player. They also get their 2nd rounder back.

[I don't know how the Knicks value Kolek and Huk. To make this trade work, both had to be included.]

I just don't think there is any need for this. I have confidence the Wizards will finish in the bottom 5 and will have no worries about conveying that protected pick to the Knicks.

The trade makes pretty good sense for NY. Champagnie is a good 2-way player and is locked into a vet minimum deal for the next 3 years. He is actually quite similar to Josh Hart being a 6-7-ish wing with freakishly good rebounding. Hart is a better passer, but Champagnie is a better 3-point shooter.

I like CHampagnie and Kolek, but dont think Wiz are giving up anything warranting NY to give up the potential of that pick
