Why for SAC? The Kings are very guard heavy with Schroder, LaVine, Monk, Ellis, and Carter all needing minutes (and potentially Clifford if shows well early on). This trade allows them to help clear up that log jam a bit and add a young wing/forward to help rebalance the roster. Barrett's contract also expires the same time as LaVine, DeRozan, & Schroder giving Scott Perry a lot of flexibility to work with during the summer of 2027.

Why for TOR? The Raptors have been rumored to be interested in Monk so they get the guy their interested. He gives them another ballhandler/playmaker/passer out of the backcourt to help Quickley and he could either start next to Quickley or act as a 6th man off the bench. Also, by moving Barrett, it allows more opportunity for their young guards/wings (Dick & Walter) to get more minutes.
