Yes, is the answer. They are similar players, and additional $18mil in salary accounts for the cost of the future unprotected 1st.

It's $36m difference in salary..$18m next 2 seasons.
And then you have injury concerns of MPJ

While I believe they're similar tier/impact players, I do like CamJ better as an all around player. That said, saying you have injury concerns with Porter vs Johnson is disingenuous. Over the last 3 seasons, Porter has played 220 games vs 157 for Johnson. Porter has been very durable in recent seasons.

Porter had 3 back surgeries and plays with a bracer because of drop foot.

He plays

Until he has another back problem and it might be the end of his career.

Until Hali/KD/... has another Achilles problem.

Lopez had 3 major surgeries on his right foot, back surgery and a shoulder surgery, and he's still playing at Age 37. Porter has been very durable over the last few years. To fear all of a sudden is back is going to blow up years after a previous surgery just seems like fearmongering.

Porter has been durable because he sits behind the 3 and waits for open looks and plays 0 defense except for grabbing uncontested rebounds. We will see how durable he is once you ask him to create his own shots.

He also dived on the floor for loose ball in the playoffs, Chris Dunn jumped on him, dislocated his shuolder. It was injury that required 4-6 weeks of recovery. He couldn't lift his left hand but didn't missed a game. Oh yes, with injured hand wearing all kind of protections he still jumped into a stands for loose ball against OKC.

All repect to him. He gave all he had to Denver, deserved nothing but respect.

Dude played but might as well not have. He was awful. The only reason he was allowed to play is because the Nuggets literally had no bench.

He was not allowed to play, he chosed to play injured when he could just sit. The same as AG did in game 7 of OKC series. Yes MPJ was bad, but there is something that needs to be adressed. We all know how OKC beat Denver. Double teamed Jokic without the ball, leave others to beat them shooting 3s. Here is average wide open 3s Nuggets players took per game in thet series

Christian Braun 4.6
Russell Westbrook 3.7
Jamal Murray 2.9
Aaron Gordon 2.9
Peyton Watson 1.9
Michael Porter Jr. 1.6
Nikola Jokić 1.4

Even one handed MPJ was tightly guarded. CB, Westy, Watson were left wide open to hit 3s but they couldn't.

Don’t get the hate for Brooklyn regarding this trade. Bill Simmons was talking about Cam Johnson like he’s James Worthy.

Tightly guarded is an exaggeration. Jokic was triple teamed while the other two OKC players were near the paint ready to sprint and chase the shooter from the 3 if he receives a pass. Unless it was Westbrook. They let WB shoot like he was blind.

That's the same Bill Simmons that a year ago called that Cam Johnson contract one of the 5 worst in the league. He's always been a Nets hater and bashes everythingthe Nets ever do. I think it's PTSD from when the Kidd-era Nets used to own the Celtics. You'd think he'd be over it by now.

And CB, and Watson
