We need inside Defense from that position.

He’s not the ideal PF to put next to Sabonis, of course. However, his advanced impact stats are pretty solid plus I don’t really see him as the long term solution anyway. His contract expires in 2 years which aligns with when Lavine & Schroder’s contracts expire which gives us a lot of flexibility to make a big move that offseason and add to a Carter, Ellis, Clifford, Murray, Raynaud, & Sabonis core.

Now DeRozan expires at the same time as LaVine & Schroder as well, true. However, Porter’s fit makes more sense on the Kings than DeRozan as were severely lacking SF/PF depth. Adding Porter allows us to start him at PF and shift Murray back to SF. It also allows us to give some minutes to LaVine, Clifford, etc. at SF which helps out our guard log jam.

So…yeah considering DeRozan & Porter expire at the same time, I’d rather take the player that helps balance our roster better while at the same time providing a similar impact as DeRozan (via advanced impact stats).

Cut Brooklyn out of this, please. Turning MPJ into expirings doesn't fit our direction, nor do any of the guys coming our way. I could see us gambling on another distressed asset and/or moving Claxton for other '27 expirings, but not this.

If that was their plan, why two weeks ago would they acquire MPJ, and his contract? If they were so worried about cap space, they would have made sure they never had MPJ on their cap sheet.
