BRK-OKC-CHI

Post#1 » by pipfan » Sun Jul 27, 2025 12:56 pm

I haven't tried in a while, but here we go
Chi sends Jalen Smith to OKC
Chi gets Dieng

Brk sends a 2nd (they have many) to Chi
BRK gets IJoe

OKC sends Dieng to Chi and IJoe to BRK
OKC gets JSmith

Assuming the Bulls keep Vuc and Collins, not a lot of minutes for Smith (for some reason, Donovan won't play him at the 4). Bulls save $ this year and next summer (having Dieng as a RFA). Gives the Bulls lots of young forwards to play with in Matas, Dieng, Noa, PWill, Phillips

BRK drafted a LOT of passers-they need someone to pass the ball to. Joe could break out some with more opportunities, and it gives them a bit more leverage with CamT

OKC saves A BUNCH of $ this year, and $2 million next year while adding someone who can play with Chet, and back him up. IJoe is good, but they have to find a few minutes for Topic this year

Seems like a lot of lateral move . Probably fairly even value but not sure which team have the incentive to do the trade the most . Probably OKC cause we gain a roster spot ?

OKC saves A LOT of $-they are close to the tax for the coming season now-this gives them PLENTY of breathing room (saves about $10 million this year)
I also think they could use JSmith (I wish the Bulls played him more last year-he's good)

SGA/Wallace/Topic
Dort/Caruso/Mitchell
JWill/Wiggins/KWill
Chet/JSmith
IHart/JWill/Sorber

It frees up the roster spot and lots of $ (giving them a TPE to use, if necessary)

Bulls do this to save $ (always important in Chi)
White/TJones/JCarter
Okoro/Ayo/Huerter
Giddey/Huerter/PWill
Matas/Dieng/Noa
Vuc/Collins/Noa
Phillips is there as well

BRK adds much needed shooting

Doesn't make much sense for OKC.

I don't know that Jalen Smith would see much playing time for the Thunder. Looking beyond Chet and I-Hart, I think he'd be behind Jaylin Williams and Kenrich Williams in the big rotation. I suspect they would be more invested in giving Sorber minutes ahead of him too. I also think a guy like Ajay Mitchell would play ahead of Smith with Jalen Williams or Aaron Wiggins playing small ball PF and Chet at the 5. OKC doesn't even want to play double big unless they have to.

I also think they want to keep Joe. His lineups have been very good consistently. If Topic and Mitchell want volume minutes, then they can beat Joe (or others) out for them. They each have 3 more years of contract control, there is no rush for OKC. Also even if OKC did want to move Joe, they probably would prefer to use his salary for a more well fitting player than Jalen Smith. OKC values quick decision making and passing from their bigs which is a weakness for Jalen Smith.

OKC can free up a roster spot just using Dieng if they feel compelled. They don't need to complicate it by adding Joe to the deal. Everyone is under contract. They are under the tax. OKC is under no pressure to get off that salary.

Also why doesn't Chicago just keep Smith? They need to move on from Vucevic. Smith is a useful stop gap solution who could increase his value. He is better than Dieng. You can probably get Dieng giving up lesser talent than Smith.

It makes sense for Brooklyn if they don't mind making the long term commitment. Joe is a good professional that is a good theoretical fit with the playmaking rookies they just selected en masse. Not sure they need to give up a second if they are fully absorbing the salary though. I don't know if I'd want to make the commitment given how directionless they are right now. I'd be more inclined if one of their young guys showed they were worth building around first.

I'm keeping Smith, absolutely no interest in Dieng and still unsure why you have such an obsession with him?

Smith was productive when given minutes.

OKC is at the point where cost saving moves are a good rationale, but Joe is on an extremely team friendly deal for like the next 4 seasons. He’s exactly the kind of cost controlled player they want to keep around as depth

I think OKC is not in the luxury tax yet so moves wise it’s probably moving Dieng at the deadline or Dieng + someone else for 1 player coming back.

Main concern this upcoming year is to not get into the tax .
