If Rozier is suspended or banned, his contract gets partially removed (if he's suspended) or completely removed (if he's banned), and at the very worst he's expiring.

Monk is still owed $60 million over the next 3 years. Miami wants to be a cap space team.

On top of that, Miami just acquired Powell and we already have Herro. We also want a look at Pelle Larsson. How many shooting guards do we need?

Miami has been trying to trade Rozier, though. The only value Rozier has is as an expiring. Therefore logically, they must be trying to trade him for someone locked in. Monk probably isn't the right guy, I will certainly concede.

Why would you assume that? When we tried to trade Wiggins, we were looking for Knecht, a first, and expiring contracts. When we traded for Powell we didn't immediately sign him to an extension. We're still working on cap space.

Rozier is already expiring. You're trading him for other expirings? You're certainly not getting a pick for him, you'd likely have to give one.

I won't belabor the point, however, as I agree Monk is not the guy Miami should be looking at.

Doesn't it make sense that we would try and turn $26 million in dead money into $26 million in useable money? And we definitely want expiring contracts...

Right. On a longer deal.

If the plan is cap, you don't waste a pick to turn Rozier into like Collin Sexton or somebody. Just let him expire.

I thoroughly beg to differ. If you can turn him into a useful contract and improve your team this year while not hurting your space, you sacrifice a minor asset. I don't think that's particularly controversial

There is an article today on RealGM wire saying (indirectly), teams involved in discussions with Miami are demanding the Heat attach draft capital to his negative contract.

This deal completely disregards it, and worse, values Monk's contract as negative.

I have Miami attaching a 1st here, or else eating the Rozier contract.
It has been written...
