Mavericks Players

Post#1 » by ddavmor » Sat Aug 23, 2025 8:07 pm

It's amazing what a low value everyone puts on all the mavs players, and yet every team wants them. And somebody please turn off the LeBron to the mavs crap. They are not going to make the Lakers a contender by giving them the entire team Dallas built around Luka. All of this just solidifies what some of us already know. Dallas is the deepest team in the league, and a serious contender that nobody will want to match up against.

Lots of solid role players but no actual stars outside of Davis/Kyrie and the yet unproven Cooper Flagg. Nothing wrong with that but those guys exist all around the league and their value is relative to their fit for a given team.

Agreed. I actually love quite a few of their roleplayers, especially PJ Washington and Naji Marshall. I think both have real value, but it isn't going to be anything crazy. I loved PJ on Charlotte, too.

PJ is an awesome role player, though ill be interested to see how he fits with an AD who will be primarily playing PF, 2 C's and Flagg. Seems like he's gonna be wasted on the Mavs, but as an expiring contract, im not sure how much they can get for him on the open market

Welcome to RealGM. Excellent first post. I disagree wholeheartedly, but keep them coming.

The days of 3 and 4 superstar teams are gone, I believe Phoenix proved that for us. A deep team with dynamic role players with a couple of superstar players is the way to win in this cap era

I mean Dallas fans know this? A superstar (Luka) and Kyrie challenged the Celtics superstar squad a year ago..

But that’s the difference between a top 5 player and top 15 player. When you have Joker or Curry or Giannis..

Dallas really should have three stars because they don’t have an MVP level player.

As for Dallas…

OKC and Houston have better/as good depth and better top end talent.

LAC fits with those two if they can stay healthy, but the team paying AD can’t talk about anyone else’s health marks..

GSW is rumored with Brogdon/Horford and likely brings back Kuminga making them deep and their stars better than Dallas’ stars..

Denver has given the best player in the world a full talented roster so maybe he doesn’t have to play 40mpg..

Minnesota is looking pretty deep if their kids can develop at any level, and their starters top Dallas..

The Lakers has better top end talent than Dallas and are actually pretty deep every where but Ayton..

Unless Flagg comes in like few rookies do, Dallas is sitting around there? Maybe pass one or two of those teams?

And that’s if Ja doesn’t have a bounce back year and Sac doesn’t fix their roster before the season starts..

Would love AD to play 75 games and Flagg to be rookie Leonard. But seems more likely Dallas has to fight to get into play-in once Kyrie is healthy..

Bottom 3-5 guard rotation in the league for half the season is going to cancel out the big man talent imo. And that’s assuming AD plays enough for Dallas to not just enter a one season tank (as they should)

Ok, let's start at the beginning I guess.

OKC doesn't match up well against Dallas as we saw last year. Even though they have a good starting lineup, Hartenstein doesn't cover the depth except at 1 position.

Houston improved themselves and have several good bench players at the 5.

Denver has no bench, they go as Jokic goes primarily.

GSW keep talking but don't do anything, can't even deal with Kuminga.

LAC traded their 2nd best shooter and if there is anyone that makes AD seem like the healthiest player in the league, that would be Leonard.

And since we're talking about when healthy, AD, when healthy is absolutely in the MVP conversation. As far as depth, Dallas is actually a proven 12 player deep team and their 5 player back ups are far and away the best quality.

I will say this is probably more of a general forum topic, but I like the perspective. I could see Dallas being very good, AD is a top 10 player, they have depth, and if Flagg is incredible they have quite a bit of top end talent. They got lucky, obviously, and I am glad they did for their fans.

They have a good team and some great players, but IDK about deepest in the league.
AD is a top 10 guy when Healthy.
Lively is a starting quality center.
Gafford and PJ are excellent role players
Flagg may be the best prospect aside from Wemby in a decade.
Kyrie probably can be exiting again when he gets healthy.
Who else is a rotation quality guy on a contender?
Klay? Caleb Martin?
Jordan Walsh > Lonnie Walker and Charles Bassey

I digress, my only point was how they were way more de valued in every trade scenario I've seen except a reasonable Herro trade.

Mavs should get LeBron if they can, basing trades on whether they make the Lakers contender is an admission of how bad the trade was and doubling on the petty and despicable non sense Nico has been on since Feb 2nd, I don't think Pelinka care about what a trade does to Dallas as long as it benifits him.
PJ Washington is an excellent PF and generally underrated on this board, I have Lively as 3rd best in his class if healthy, I don't share your high value for the rest of the roster.
Mavs are too deep at C and PF, and too shallow or filled with low quality on other positions.

Kyrie is currently injured and we don’t know when we will see him again or what he will look like the rest of the season. AD is on and off hurt all the time. And Cooper is a rookie and even the best of best rookies are inefficient.

I dont think a lot of elite teams in the league are worried about Dallas. They will most likely be a 7-10 team in the west. Could be worse than that easily.

I disagree here. Those guys likely don’t play on championship quality team.

On Klay, I think some consider him a big negative contract, but I think he's still a pretty useful as a rotation player and only slightly overpaid. But you're certainly not getting anything good for him in a trade.

On Naji, Exum and Martin, all these guys are kind similar in that they are useful role-players, but at the end of the end of the day they don't shoot consistently enough to play a significant role on an actual contender. Martin the only one I think is a negative contract, but you aren't getting anything for Naji or Exum in a trade.

On Christie, solid player on a reasonable contract and still SUPER young. The player option really hurts that value of the contract, but I think it would be reasonable to say he's worth a late first.

On D Russell, the market has spoken. The Lakers tried to trade him for over a year and no one wanted him. Then he hit free agency and no one (other than the Mavs) wanted him. He's a stop gap PG. His contract is cheap enough now that it's certainly not bad, but it's just very clear no one wants this guy.

On Williams, he did enough last year to give himself a chance to stick in the league, but he's almost 26 and he's played ZERO meaningful NBA minutes in his career. He's a fringe roster guy until proven otherwise.

Agreed - They should have a very good defense, certainly top 10, maybe top 5. But there will always be a player to attack at PG, so I don't think they will be #1 there. And I think they'd be lucky to have a league average offense.
