Why would the Celtics want a guy that's older, not as good and has played 4 playoff games his entire career. They wouldn't.

Because of the picks...

Kings get Brown/Washington

Celtics get Ellis/Keegan/Gafford/DDR

Mavs do it for a scorer/facilitator in Monk, take a flyer on Carter and potentially two firsts.

Kings do it to have a big three of Brown/Sabonis/LaVine. They immediately sign Lyles and Westbrook to fill out the roster. They keep all their own firsts.

Celtics do it to reset deeper and younger around Tatum when he returns. DDR holds it down this year and his contract drops off 14 million if his TO isn’t picked up which helps extend Keegan/Ellis. Or, maybe DDR sticks around as a bench scorer when Tatum returns.

Flame away. I’m bored.

switch Jaylen Brown with X, Tllman and you have a deal

If he’s so great, then why is this an “off year” for the Celtics?

Let's see, the Celtics lost Holiday, Porzingis, Horford, Kornet, Tatum. Jaylen Brown is good but he is not Superman.

Boston didn't lose Holiday, Porzingis, Horford, and Kornet. They chose to dump them or not bring them back because Jaylen Brown with those players is an off year.

Jaylen is a good player but I think some fans overestimate his trade value on that contract in the apron era.

Agree. Boston wants to be a contender while Tatum is in his Prime and while White is still good.
That’s probably the next three years…though Tatum window is longer obviously.
If they are trading Brown it need to be a package that makes them better. A combination of a win in 26/27/28 player, young guy with upside and pick compensation.
This package doesn’t do it. They are way better off keeping Brown. The Memphis package in The other thread is closer.

Maybe this time last year this offer may have looked more attractive. Murray just hasn’t developed to the point I would hope for after a nice sophomore season. Can’t see Boston entertaining this now.

Horford and Kornet were unrestricted, not to mention they both received offers. They lost them to better offers they couldn’t match. If Boston was going to tank they’d be under the cap, not just the second apron. One year of say Porzingis isn’t worth all those second apron penalties. Maybe if they had used assets and had a team eat Simons with no return there would be an argument, but it’s difficult to say they’re in a bridge year when they’re still over the first apron.

Better offers they didn't match. They just need to liquidate Simons to get under the tax, and they have until the trade deadline.
I really didn't think anyone would argue that rolling out Queta, Pritchard, and Hauser or something in the starting lineup is Boston's version of building a contender around Brown.
