Which team has the capability to eat 20 million of Simons deal?

The Jazz

Spotrac has them at 156 million, with the ability to open up 12 or so by renouncing remaining holds and waiving KMJ. Maybe I'm missing something?

Yea maybe, Nurk is $19.4 on hoopshype and one big drawback is he's cooked. Simons has a chance at looking really good and being worth something closer to the trade deadline. Nurk is done as positive value. Plus Nurkic is one of the dirtier players and seems like a high chance at becoming a lockerroom malcontent

If you move Simons and Tillman and take back just Nurk, you still need to add a 14th guy. So it seems you are still $3 or $4 over, and then you are probably paying another draft asset to move Nurk later in the year.

I think Brad would pass on Nurkic. Maybe closer to the deadline in a pure financial engineering type of trade, where Nurkic never even reports to Boston and then is rerouted ... but don't see that possibility at this point, not now in September imo

Huh, why was I think we were at 15 spots now? Whoops, that changes the math for sure.

I'd love to flip Nurk back to POR and get Rob back which would a) save enough money, b) be great for vibes if nothing else. But, unsure how to coax POR into it. Or don't include Nurk at all

BOS: Rob
SAC: Simons
UTA: DeRozan
POR: SloMo, KJ Martin

picks gotta go to POR and UTA somehow.

I would LOVE to get Rob back, I'd even throw in that 2026 "best of" 2nd because we're getting under the tax and getting the good vibes, lol

The problem is Utah wants to tank and DeRozen will just be a repeat of Colin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson where they leading to too many wins.
If KCP is willing to take a redshirt type of year, Memphis would probably work better, if everyone throws in a 2nd for UTAh

BOS Gets: Robert williams
MEM Gets: Anfernee Simons
POR Gets: Nurkic
UTA Gets: KCP plus a MEM 2nd & a BOS 2nd

Utah would maybe still not want to do it though, they only keep their FRP if it's top 8 (i think) so they really do not want veterans and KCP maybe wouldn't want to take a "Al Horford in OKC" type of year coming off the really down year KCP had last year

But a Ant Simons going out for Rob Williams coming back, would solve a lot of problems for Brad Stevens

That deal might need more greasing. How far would you go????? Lotto protected 27 1st (converts to 2 2nds) to get Rob, duck the tax.

BOS: Rob, K Love
UTA: KCP, X, 27 BOS 1st
POR: SloMo, Landale, MEM 2nd(s)
MEM: Simons

That gets BOS under the tax, keeps POR and MEM out of it. POR gets an asset for Rob, Utah gets a possible 1st.
Rob agrees to a cheap extension if that helps.

I'd be game for this on Portland's side.

IIRC they have a huge trade exception.

If Utah was willing to give Slo mo/KMJ for DeRozan and 2nds, id cut everyone else out and take that in a heart beat.

Thinking about it more, MEM may be getting off to easy. They're shedding the worse salary and getting the better player (relatively). Might switch it up to BOS sending a few 2nds and MEM sending the first. BOS saves ~ $13M in this deal, but does downgrade in talent/availability.

Nurkic's days as an effective NBA player are over. He'll only be traded (again) to match salaries, not to be counted on to actually produce. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play in the NBA anymore.

Would need a first imo to take the second year of KCP unless another team wants him for expirings, e.g. LAL for Kleber and Vincent.
