The Bucks move Redd, who isn't working out there. They bring back ultimate team guy Shane Battier, Luther Head to restore some shooting from the guard spot, some expirings, and a draft pick. They also receive a $3.44M TPE, which they can renounce for savings.

The Rockets go for it, trading for a legit starter who can shoot the ball and put up big numbers, opening the floor for Yao to play inside and McGrady to slash to the hoop. The cost is Battier, a pick and some bench players. Storey is included to replace a little wing depth (and keep Milwaukee's roster size close to manageable).

In Villanueva and Scola, the teams swap PFs who despite their talent haven't fit it in too well on their current teams, but who could light it up if they swapped. Scola, a better passer and interior player, makes a better complement to Bogut and Yi, while Villanueva (the better shooter and pure scorer) makes a nice fit next to Yao.

The Bucks do this for salary flexibility. They shave a year off Gadzuric's contract, THREE years off Bell's, and one year off Mason's. When Battie returns next year, he will provide some leadership and physical defence as a backup 5.

The Magic do this to improve. They trade the injured Battie for the non-injured Gadzuric, who can hustle and rebound a little this season. They trade Dooling for the more talented Mason to help on the wing...his slashing makes a nice change of pace from the Magic's good shooters. And they trade the useless Garrity for a good, smart defensive PG in Bell. (Bell has to approve any trade this year, but given that he ends up in Florida after all and has (quite frankly) a legit bid at the starting spot, it shouldn't be an issue.)

I find it unlikely the Bucks will be able to move Simmons without giving up so much as to be unworth it...next season, with Wells and Snyder off the books, the Bucks can go with a Battier/Simmons/Head rotation on the wing. They also have the $3.44M TPE (if not renounced) and 2 first rounders to help fill out the roster. They move forward next year from a dysfunctional me-first, no-defence squad to one loaded with hard-working, team players. They also get some salary flexibility by cutting down on Redd's contract, getting out of Bell's and Mason, and shaving down Gadzuric's.

I'm not very high on either Redd or Villanueva, but we don't give up either of our two all stars, so I think Houston would have to do it.

As a Bucks fan, I'm not sure I'd do the first deal though. There's no talented youngster coming back, probably no lottery pick and we don't get rid of any bad contracts.

That's true, and that's what makes this deal at least interesting.

As for the second deal, I'd do it. But Bell, even when he's playing well, is really not a point guard. He'd be ok next to a playmaking 2 like Wade, but you don't want to depend on him running your offense.

I'm a huge advocate of a Redd trade but I think the first deal is horrible. What good is Shane Battier on a rebuilding team? We are trading Redd to get younger and we get a 29 year old role player (albeit a good one) and a pick that is unlikely be in the lottery? AND we give up CV? I just don't see the logic there.

Second trade is fine.

I understand the comments here. That was one of my concerns, that Milwaukee gets no "stars" back for Redd. I'm just not sure that such a return is realistically available.

I view Head as a late 1st (though that may be part of the problem )...so the Bucks get a good player they need in Battier, expirings, and 2 late firsts for Redd. A similar return to Philly's Iverson trade, which was my model here. I'm sure the Bucks could swap Battier to another team in the off-season if they prefer, getting expirings and another 1st. That doesn't sound so bad for Redd to me, but I understand that others may disagree

I can also understand that Bucks fans want a high first if they trade Redd...but I doubt that will happen. Who has high picks? Lotto teams. Who's NOT going to trade for Redd? Lotto teams. So I figured get some late ones and you can at least try to move up.

bucks dont need a star back they need players to build around Yi and Bogut with another start player the offense will never run through those two and will never reach their potential that they have they need to trade for exp. contracts and high draft picks that will result in players that are going to be great around Yi and Bogut Like a Rose, or Augustine at pg and a green, Budginger or Batum at sf

I like Battier on MIL. When the other players see a guy working so hard on defense, that might help set a new tone that the coaching staff hasn't been able to impress upon the players. loserX is right also, that Battier is a player that a lot of teams would covet, and if they want to deal him in the off-season, they could probably get pretty decent value for him.

There is no way in hell Orlando does that second trade.

Orlando should look to trade their expirings for a quality starter like Andre Miller, not for a bunch of overpaid role players who aren't even a significant improvement over what they've got already.
