Shaq back to Louisiana

Post#1 » by JN » Tue Jan 8, 2008 5:07 pm

First off, what is presented below is not my deal. But I got in an argument with someone else on another message board, that has nothing to do with basketball, but does have a sports discussion form.

Did not run the trade checker, but on the surface it looks like it might work dollar wise.

So he says he is almost certain that New Orleans will make a move for Shaq.

His trade is as follows:

To NO: Shaquille O'Neal
To Miami : Tyson Chandler, Bobby Jackson, Julian Wright + Draft Pick (s)

I told him he was insane to think Shaq had that much value. Tyson is probably as good as him now, and he is not injury prone.

Thoughts?

How fast does New Orleans say no? After the "Sha"? Once they see its Miami on the caller ID? New Orleans is not trading from the core to get an over the hill, injured center who would kill the running game that Chris Paul runs. Plus, Chandler gets a lot of rebounds Shaq wouldn't and the defensive West-Shaq combo would be pretty bad.

Shaqs value is in the crapper. He's 36 years old, constantly injured and still owed nearly $60 mil through 2010.

The only way you trade for him is if you are sure he puts you over the top this year. And frankly I'm not even sure he'd make NO a better team. I don't really see him fitting in w/ their current roster and that's if he can even stay on the court.

The Hornets are in a great spot right now - no reason to screw with any of their core players. Especially not for somebody as old as Shaq. They gotta be looking at the next 5+ years.
