Pistons/Sixers...Amir heads to the city of brotherly love.

Post#1 » by GreenWithEnvy » Wed Jan 9, 2008 11:13 pm

Sixers Get: Amir Johnson

Pistons Get: Kevin Ollie (expiring), Jason Smith, Rodney Carney and possibly the future 1st round pick acquired in the Korver/Giricek deal.

Sixers
get a potential beast in the paint and pairing him with Dalembert forms the longest and most athletic 4-5 combo in the NBA. Only problem from the Sixers end is the loss of Smith and adding salary

Miller/Williams
Green/Giricek
Iguodala/Young
Johnson/Evans/Randolph
Dalembert/Hill/Booth

Pistons

get cap relief and 2 prospects, Smith being the more solid one. Jason could be great in Detroit playing the pick and roll with Chauncey and/or Stuckey and Carney could benefit learning the NBA wing position from Hamilton and Prince

Billups/Stuckey/Ollie
Hamilton/Carney/Afflalo
Prince/Hayes
McDyess/Maxiell/Hermann
Sheed/Smith/Prezec

This trade has already been proposed and its shot down

1. Carney is not going to see any playing time with Detroit for a few reasons a) he has not shown that he is capable of playing in the NBA b)Stuckey is the 3rd guard Arron Afflalo looks more promising than Carney and c)Hayes is already a better PF than him.

2. Jason Smith is a PF, not a C. He doesnt fill a need. If anything Detroit wants to fortify the 4/5 spots with a rebounder, shotblocker and someone who can play in the post. Smith is a jumpshooting PF who would be buried on the bench and probably play as little as Amir is now without having the upside to one day fufill that role.

It's not bad value for the Pistons (and from the Sixers perspective is overpaying) but it doesn't fill any needs for Detroit. We're stacked on the wing and don't need any more jumpshooting PF's. 7 feet tall or not Smith is NOT a center.

I wish all this Amir talk would just go away. Nothing good can come from it. :noway:

An expiring, Jason Smith and a 1st, really? Just because Dumars has said nice things about him?

How many players do we have to cut to make this work?
