What team will make the next trade?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:00 pm

It seems there are a few teams, like Chicago, Houston, etc, that seem to need a fix to save their season. Others, like Philly, are just going into rebuilding mode and have assets to move.

Who do you think is going to make the next trade and who will be moved?

I'm going with Chicago, and moving Gordon/Nocioni for some kind of help, quickly followed by Philly moving Miller.

I could also see Seattle making a move or two. They have KT, Watson, Ridnour, Wilkins, West as possibles. May be closer to the deadline though.

Sactown has some pieces they would like to ship off.

Orlando, Miami, Cleveland, LAs, ??? could all use some help via new blood.

I imagine Philly will move somebody...don't necessarily know that it'll be Miller.

My money (all 73 cents) is on Orlando being one of the teams involved in the next trade.

I think the teams working on rebuilding and cap space will make moves closer to the deadline. Those teams trying to make the playoffs will be trying sooner rather than later. Curious if the Bulls make the playoffs this year...

Well yeah, but the teams trying to make the playoffs won't be trading with each other...they'll be trading with the teams working on rebuilding and capspace ;)

While you occasionally get two teams in win now situations trading (often shuffling problems around), most deals are a win now team 'buying' help (by taking on salary or giving up projects/draft picks) from a team out of playoff consideration.

The main 'sellers' look to be in the Western Conference bottom 5 (all clearly out of playoff consideration already).

Memphis - Gasol (and for a much smaller deal, Mighty Mouse)
Sacramento - Artest and Bibby (if he ever gets back on the court), possibly Miller as well
Seattle - Ridnour and/or Watson, possibly West, Wally, Wilkins, Wilcox or Thomas as well.
LAC - Maggette, Cassell

Minnesota has pretty much sold everyone already but might make a small deal or 2.

It's easier for bottom teams in the East to think of making a playoff run. Miami and NY are at the bottom of the league, but I don't know what they would or could sell. Milwaukee has talked of making moves and Philly seems more interested in next year than this year so they could make a move as well.

i think there are going to be TWO teams involved in the next trade considering u need a partner for a trade to be done. also, i believe that Philly will ONE of the teams making a deal. Hopefully with Orlando for their expirings.

Miami passed through desperation a few weeks ago, they've moved on to acceptance of their fate.

this is seriously impossible to predict, any 2 teams can do a scrub swap. as far as a blockbuster, i think the knicks, indy, miami, sacramento, and LA are some of the most likely near the trade deadline.

Am I going to be reviled on this board for calling this the process of Mourning the Heat?!

I think Philly has the biggest motivation to do so. I also think Atlanta will.

I think there are a lot of teams that are gonna make moves before the deadline...

- Bulls seems like a sure bet(something revolving around Gordon)
- Kings are gonna unload some vets(Bibby,Artest)
- Sonics are gonna move some pieces(Ridnour I think, maybe Watson,Thomas)
- Heat are gonna try and pick up somebody(Maybe a Ridnour)
- Knicks are gonna do SOMETHING(probably stupid,..but hopefully for them move a few contracts)
- Sixers are gonna make a move or two(Miller is most likely, maybe Evans as well)

Those I would say are the most probables...

The Maybes are:
- Grizzles(that big Gasol trade)
- TWolves(trying to move Jaric and Fatoine... will have to package a young player or two to try and do so)
- Bucks(slight possibility at a Redd deal,.. if they can move Simmons/Gadz with him it becomes more likely)
- Magic(moving some of their expirings for a helpful player or two)
- Hawks(move a Childress or Shelden for a player or two to help their playoff run)
- Nets(try and pick up a front court player... they have some expirings to move)

I look for a big big trade deadline this year... should be exciting !
