What's the matter? No more low blow offers coming in, I guess Calderon has finally commanded some respect around here.

I guess he's not just a back-up anymore.

Calderon is among the best backup PG's in the league but I don't think he's clearly in solid starter category yet.

I think if he platooned the position with another player on a similar level (ex. Beno Udrih) that combo would be a potent combination for that position.

Fixed.

You must not get to watch a lot of east coast games huh?

Calderon has put up 13.1 points, 9 assists, 4 boards in his last 20 games, on 50/40/near 90 percentages and carries the best turnover/assist ratio in the league and is on pace for break the all time record.

He's started 21 games this season and has put up near 14 and 10 with just about the same percentages.

You either just have no idea what you're talking about, probably no clue what Calderon has done so far this season. Or are just trying to be difficult.

Calderon is not only a legit starting point guard, but he could start for 20 teams in the NBA. And it's even debatable for a few more teams. He's without a doubt putting up top 10 point guard numbers and if you go by per/efficiency, he's right there with the very best.

He's not only in the "clearly starter category", he's beyond that, he's arguably near the "all-star" category.

Calderon's a nice player, and definitely a starting caliber PG, but he's clearly not in the top third of starting PG, plus the fact that he's been starting for 21 games isn't a big enough sample. Nene had a great run starting a couple years ago when Camby and KMart were hurt, but he hasn't done much since then to keep developing or even return to that form.

PG's better then Calderon:
TJ Ford (since he starts over Calderon when healthy)
Kidd
Billups
Arenas
CP3
Parker
Baron
Deron
Nash
AI

I'd argue that Andre Miller and Jason Terry are better once you factor in Calderon's defense.

And than Calderon is better once you factor Terry and Miller's D? Caldy might be a matador on D, but so are those two guys. Iverson plays the 2 in Denver, Anthony Carter starts at point guard.

I didn't say Udrih is better than Calderon, but I'd say he's closer to Calderon's level than most of you would choose to believe.

Calderon means wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more to the Raps then most teams. I am sure LA and Cleveland would love to get Calderon but outside of Bynum (obviously I am not including Kobe) the Lakers have little that we would want for Calderon. The deal wouldn't happen cause Bynum is worth more.

As for the Cavs they are in a real mess LeBron is the only good thing on that team. I wouldn't want anything else.

Calderon is better than what they have, but the Lakers like their young PGs and, as xbl says, don't have anything worth trading to the Raps...

I think Miami should offer their full MLE this summer to Calderon to get even with the Raps for taking Kapono from them.

yeah if thats all it took the Raps would gladly take that and run. Calderon is a great team guy knows his role and didn't once say this is my team or anything like that.

Teams would love to have his work ethic. All I got to say is  at Bac2Basics for saying Beno is even close to being worth Calderon. Beno hasn't put up one season close to Calderon yet. Jose put up some impressive numbers as a backup last year as well.

Eh guy, don't get so excited, Calderon wouldn't go anywhere near that offer sheet.

Random things to point out.

1) Jose will get more then MLE

2) Jose will like to get his contract done quickly, due to international games to be played in the summer

3) BC will likely match any contact that is not SIGNIFICANTLY absurd... I cant see him losing assets for nuthing. Else he will try to work out a sign and trade.

4) There are not many teams who will be able to offer him more then the MLE.... I beleive theres about 3-4, but its not a gareentee. Like for example philly could trade Dre to get under, but would it make sense to go after Jose? ... my gut tells me if they trade Dre for cap, it would be a move to go after Arenas 1st. .... On the other hand Atlanta is in a solid position where they could make a move... the cap hold for childress is steep, and he could be renounced, then overpay Jose, then sign Josh Smith since his initial cap hold is small. But the problem is would Atlanta just renounced Childress for nuthing? ... tough to say, maybe they try to trade him right now before the deadline for an expiring and a low pick.... therefore getting some value for him, while the aquiring team has rights to match his contract offer in summer, and another body for a playoff push.
