On further consideration, it might make more sense for MIN to send $3 mil in cash, rather than Gomes.

First, adding Gomes means CHI has to cut a player to get to the 15 man roster size.

Second, $3 mil in cash would basicly change the original deal only so that CHI would only be paying $1.5 mil next year for Walker's $9 mil expiring, and clearly a $9 mil expiring has a bit of trade value.

So I'd end up at:

Ben Wallace + JamesOn Curry + CHI pick for Jaric + Walker BOS pick + $3 mil.

(.. hmm .. not sure why I wrote "ATL pick" in the last post. Maybe I was thinking about PHO.)

Nikola Pekovic is also a decent mid to late round pick for the 5 spot, you can probably trade some guys near the deadline to a contending team for one to try and nab this guy

The obvious solution is to fill one hole with the Wolves 2008 lottery pick, and the other with the Wolves 2009 lottery pick.

First of all, he said Jefferson was off-limits.

Second of all, :noway: :noway: :noway:

I know, I know, but I couldn't help myself.

And that's likely what's going to happen. But you can't blame fans of a 12-16 win team for being impatient.

Crazy Ron Artest? Maybe George Jefferson.

Trading chips include the following:

-Miami #1 (2008 lottery protected, 2009 top-10, 2010 top-6, unprotected thereafter)

I think people are sleeping on the value of this pick. No offense to Heat fans, but MIA tried to win now (I think a good move), but since they failed, they are in pretty bad shape. They don't have a lot of talent or depth on the teams, and Shaq and Blount are on the books for a few years, so financially I don't see free agents riding to the rescue.

I think if a team wanted to wait until 2009 to make a big move, they may consider this piece being a big part of the swap. Perhaps 2009 MIA #1 and 2009 BOS #1.

Yeah but its fun to make a splash in the draft....to be the team that makes a bold move or two to move up or get an extra pick or something. Look what Utah did a few years ago....made a trade to move a couple spots to get Williams.....that seems to have worked out for them.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder what it would cost to get MIA to remove the protections on the pick they owe MIN? If MIA got the 2008 pick, all he's going to do is move them down a little in the 2009 lottery.

Alternately, they could remove the protections (and they aren't extreme protections), so they stink next year and begin in earnest rebuilding in summer of 2009? They already owe the pick to MIN sometime - this means taking care of their obligations quickly. MIN would have to provide some significant value -- more than just the BOS pick.

But with the Heat being "in pretty bad shape", doesn't that suggest that they might well be in the bottom ten in 2009 (possibly intentionally), deferring that pick yet another year? Until it's known whether the Heat are going to even TRY to contend next year, the value of their '09 pick is pretty dubious. And the Boston '09 pick CERTAINLY doesn't have much value at this point (in the scheme of draft picks, I mean)...it's looking like quite possibly the 30th pick, meaning 2nd-round-talent with a guaranteed contract, and a year away at that.

If I had a lotto pick this year, I certainly wouldn't put it on the roulette wheel for that return.

A scenerio that might come up is with Phoenix. They have Atl 's first plus TE's from the Kurt Thomas trade and an TE from the James Jones trade. Phoenix could be looking at a combination of Gerald Green and Ryan Gomes or Craig Smith for a trade exception and the atl pick.

I'd do that for Minny.
