No.
The Sonics are as likely as any team to be involved in a trade before the deadline. But any trade needs to make sense. Here's some thoughts about where the Sonics are at IMO. Other faithful may think a bit differently...
- K Durant, J Green& the Sonics 2008 1st pick aren't going anywhere. Neither is R Swiftuntil we can get him back on the court and determine if he's our center for the future or not.
- N Collison & C Wilcox are core guys. Not interested in trading either of them. At least this season. Any trade offer that we'd accept for these two would probably be so biased in favor of the Sonics as to make it unacceptable for all other teams.
- L Ridnour is a decent, young, pass first PG. He's not big & defense is not his strong suit, but he's got quick hands, leads the break, shoots & is creative on offense. He's been out injured a lot so far. And maybe he's been held out while the Sonics take a good long look at E Watson & D West. IMO the Sonics will not give him up for expirings. However, it's likely our 2008 1st is either D Rose or J Bayless so his future with the Sonics is in question... unless the Sonics pick E Gordon.
- D West appears to be a perfect first guard off the bench after the Sonics pick a PG in the draft. But he's been struggling with the crazy rotations & lack of minutes that has been the byproduct of the Sonics never ending evaluation period. D West is athletic, plays defense and can shoot. Not as much a playmaker as L Ridnour, but a good 6th man IMO. Next season is his fifth year of his rookie contract so he's looking for a contract. He could be traded in the right deal.
- E Watson is defensive oriented PG who does best in a structured half court offense. PJ has appeared to favor him this season so far, but like I mentioned L Ridnour has been injured. A lot of us have speculated he'd be available for expirings, but maybe not. He's a decent PG. And getting rid of his $6M salary, while a bit too much, isn't going to enable the Sonics to pick up an unrestricted free agent this summer.
- Kurt Thomas is available at the deadline. But the price is expirings and a prospect or a pick swap (your late 1st for our early 2nd). Kurt Thomas gives the young Sonics a lot on and off the court. We'd be happy to keep him all season if no team wants to give us what he's worth. On the other hand R Swift is going to need his minutes when he's cleared to return in a few weeks.
- M Sene, as much as I'm so pissed Rick Sund passed on R Brewer, M Sene is huge and athletic. But he's raw. We'd be hard pressed to trade him in fear he'd develop into a solid defensive center for another team.
- J Petro & D Wilkins would both be available in a trade by themselves or as filler in another trade to make it happen.
- M Gelabale. Who cares? We're sending him back to France after this season.
- W Szczerbiak is a 50/40/90 shooter. He can still play. He's not worth his $12M contract, but did I mention he shoots lights out. He helps take the pressure off of K Durant. And his contract is expiring after next season. I expect his trade value will be much higher this time next season. So he likely will not be traded. But he might, for expirings, if Presti thinks all the cap space that would be opened up could get the Sonics a free agent. And that'd be a ton of cap space... especially if the trade included either E Watson or L Ridnour.

I'm pretty sure the Sonics Gm would look at other ways to make deals. Sure they would like to lighten the load at pointguard to make way for most likely a top 3 drafted pointguard in June. But I don't see them panicking to trade a good player like Collison in order to accomplish that.
Do you realize that Seattle has 2 first round picks and 3 or 4 second round picks thsi draft? What in the world would they do with 2 more lower first round picks which would mean 4 first and 4 second rounders? It's easy to say well they can just combine them to trade up, but why would another team take that on? Tell me when the last time was a team had 8 picks in a draft?
This trade doesn't make alot of sense for Seattle.
