Indiana - Portland Trade Bench Players

Post#1 » by Ensider » Thu Jan 17, 2008 4:47 pm

Indiana trades

Marquis Daniels and Jeff Foster

To Portland for

Raef Lafrentz and Taurean Green and two 2nd Round Picks in '08'

For Indiana this puts them in a situation next summer to trade Lafrentz's expiring contract for a big name player. Also with Tinsley either hurt or suspended they get Green who led Florida in college to back to back Championships. And a couple good second round picks.

For Portland they get Daniels who would be a good second unit guy with Jarrett Jack and if he acts up he could be tarded easy next summer. Also Foster who could help the Blazers with there rebounding wows. Think PrzybillaX2. Both guys have short contracts.

IMO both teams would pass.

Portland doesn't need either Daniels or Foster and they certainly don't need their contracts if they're sticking to their 09 cap plan.

Conversely, Indy shouldn't be trading two pretty good role players for an expiring next year if they want to compete.

Why would Indiana trade their productive bench players for Portland's UNproductive bench players ??

First off Portland needs a Foster if they want to contend, when Przybilla goes out who gets rebounds...nobody. Also Daniels would be nice off the bench pretty good defender. And both expire before 09'.

Indiana's not going to compete. Just being blunt.

If Foster and Daniels' deals do in fact expire by '09 Portland jumps all over this. I've liked Jeff Foster for a long time and I think he'd be absolutely perfect for Portland.

There may be some issues with Daniels from Portland's perspective. Namely playing time and whether he'll be happy not seeing much of it. I believe he had a "run-in" in the past, but I don't know whatever came of that. I have a feeling regardless of that Portland would still do this deal if it was offered.

I really don't get why the Pacers would do this deal.

Foster expires at the same time as LaFrentz and Daniels has a team option for the following year. Both players could be gone at the same time as LaFrentz, meaning we have the same amount of expiring contracts, but with much better players. 2 2nd round picks isn't all that enticing, and Taurean Green isn't really all that much incentive to take on dead weight in Raef.

How about switch T.Green and the picks with Sergio Rodriguez?

Lafrentz + Rodriguez for Foster and Daniels

Blazers get the rebounder they need; Pacers get a good backup behind Tinsley.

pacers would probably only take raef if it meant getting rid of murphy's contract (which i kinda think portland wouldn't be interested in). we'd want jack OR we could take rodriguez with the rights to rudy fernandez but no one cares about taurean green. so i don't see a deal here.
