Biggest Trade in NBA History - Portland/Memphis/Phoenix/Indy

Bear with me on this.

Here's my reasoning.

Indiana
Needs a PG. Also needs some outside shooting. Bird has long had an interest in Mike Miller. Banks gives them flexibility to move Tinsley.

Memphis
Needs a change. Building off of the Amare Stoudamire rumor. Also needs to get better defensively.

Phoenix
If they move Amare, that means they are most likely committed to Shawn Marion. If that is the case they will need to create room to resign him in the offseason. Which means they will also need to move Boris Diaw AND get back a center that can play defense and rebound on a relatively small contract (Jeff Foster). Also need some cheap bench fodder.

Portland
The way they are playing, when Oden is healthy they should be ready to contend. Getting an experienced player now would allow them to do just that (Boris Diaw). Diaw also happens to play their most needed position. SF.

No thanks, we'll just stick with what we have. We need perimeter shooting(Webster and Jones), not Diaw or Warrick. Frye will be one of our backup big men next year, and Outlaw is no good at SF.

As much as I think the Suns would consider this one, there's NO WAY Portland does. They get hosed in my opinion. They are playing Fabulous ball as a TEAM. They give up 3 key contributors to their run this year at needed positions for Warrick, who yes would look a lot better anywhere else and Diaw, who is completely under performing up until here of late. They also kill any cap flexibility they would have keeping their team the way it is.

I would not take Diaw or Warrick over anyone you have Portland trading. Yes, they have too much depth but you do not give it away for a player that has had one good season, and that was in a contract year. Warrick is just a throw in so no comment needed on him. If Portland wants a late first round pick they can just buy one as they have done many times in the past five years. As is, Portland may be selling their own pick this year, not trading for one.

Edit; I would take Diaw talent wise over Jack, but not contract wise.

I don't think you can bring the Blazers into this deal... They are playing too good and can find a good SF in the off-season or through the draft. As young as that team is currently, I don't see the need to even tweak it.

this is not the biggest trade, I made some pretty wild trades a while back anyway, hard to see the blazers do this because of the amount of people leaving for Diaw who really eliminates their 09 cap plan.

that's your problem as far as the portland part of it. SF is not portland's weakest position.

Portland plays 3 guys at SF: Webster, Jones, and occasionally Outlaw. And I would argue that all three players are better then Diaw, probably by a quite a bit. And the salary of the 3 combined is only $800,000 more then Diaw's.

As a matter of fact Webster & Jones are easily better the Diaw and Warrick and this trade has portland giving up the better pair of SF's AND Frye and Jack as well. Ridiculous.

Tell you what, as long as portland is in this trade to serve 2 functions: grease the wheels, and get screwed, they offer a counter-proposal. They'll keep Jones, and send out webster, frye, & rodriguez. Phoenix can keep Diaw...they loved him enough to give him that nutty contract after all...and send Barbosa and the pick to portland. And memphis was making out to well, they can add their 1st round pick to Warrick and send both to portland. That way portland can be fairly compensated for being the facilitator of a trade for 3 other teams.

My thinking was with Roy, Oden, Aldridge all on rookie deals, Diaw's contract would not be a big hinderance to them for the next few seasons.

LaFrentz/Franics will be off at the end of next season.

If Portland is a no go, that's fine. I just figured he would be the perfect utility player for Nate McMillan. Good passer, smart, can defend and play multiple positions and would add to the versatility Roy has.

I doubt it. They have plenty of combo forwards and clunker contracts already. What they offer in return would be pretty limited.

That's not too bad value for Amare, but I think the Suns would take the roster they have currently over the one they end up with..
