Minnesota gets Kwame's expiring and would not mind eating up Vlad's contract to get rid of Marko Jaric and Antoine Walker. Lakers receive a versatile PG/SG/SF in Jaric. Antoine Walker can do stuff for the Lakers...
Gerald Green might learn a few tricks from Kobe and do stuff too...
First, a reality check for the Laker fans. I know they are happy with the production of Vlad, but the Walker and Jaric are producing as well, and this deal gives them:
Change in Team Outlook: +9.7 ppg, +0.9 rpg, and +3.5 apg.
... so its not as horrible a trade as you are implying.
Breaking it down, I think Jaric and Vlad have both increased their value, and both are about even in value and contract. MIN would probably prefer to keep the useful Jaric, who helps direct traffic for their young team, and Laker fans would probably prefer to keep Vlad.
As for the rest, I think the Lakers say "no." Gerald Green has jaw-dropping athleticism (imagine if YOU had a 48-inch vertical leap!) but he's probably not developed enough to help the Lakers right now. Walker is better than Kwame, and
he'll be an expiring next season (which many posters here do not recognize). Not bad, but Kwame is an expiring THIS season, and I don't think the increase in talent this season and next justifies waiting even one year for Kwame's cap relief. So I think "No" from the Lakers.
That said, if the Lakers are intent on trading Kwame, MIN is a good fit. No matter how badly he's playing lately, the Wolves wouldn't mind, since they don't need production. And of course, trading away production would be easier for them than any other team.
So my thinking on this deal is "No from the Lakers, but you're on the right track."
