That wasn't a Pacers fan that said it. He is not untouchable whatsoever, we just don't think we will get 100%+ value for him. He is also loved by Pacer fans. I may trade him for a first round pick to a contender (Detroit? SA?). Idk, maybe other fans want more. But that Lakers offer was pretty awful. And we don't need to trade him for an expiring when he has one of the best contracts in the league.

i wasn't laughing so much at his rejecting the offer, just that he called him untouchable. but if he's not a pacer fan then i retract my statement.

the spurs would love to have foster. he isnt the shot blocker that they would like to pair with duncan, but he is a good hustle player (pop loves guys like that) and a great rebounder (something the spurs are in dire need of), and even has the hometown boy thing going for him.

problem is, the spurs dont have many assets that they could/would trade. most every player has a role on this team, and i dont think pop and rc are going to risk shaking thing up too much or trade away potential assets. the best the spurs would probably offer is:

jeff foster

for

francisco elson
robert horry
2008 1st round pick
cash
future considerations (2nd round pick)

on the condition the money being sent goes toward a buyout of horry so he could return to the spurs after 30 days. but these deals never happen (at least, i cant think of any recently), plus they become even more complicated when you figure in waivers, potential cost to the spurs in taxes, the fact that the pacers arent getting great value (essentially expirings + 1st round pick), ect...

in the end, while i bet the spurs would love to get their hands on foster, im not sure they have the pieces to swing it, while not disrupting the team/rotation, being pushed above the luxury line (which the spurs are less than 100k from iirc), or having to part with assets they would rather hold on to (splitter and ian).

Laker fan here and I don't mean any disrespect when I say this, but why? I mean, Foster is as one dimensional as a player can get and he isn't exactly getting veteran minimum contract. Why would he be considered near untouchable for so many Indiana fans?

How did Lakers fans value Kurt Rambis back in the showtime days?

Foster is near untouchable because he is the ultimate hustle guy every team would love to have. There is NO team in the NBA that wouldn't want to trade for him, just like Lakers fans in this thread.

The only way we deal Foster is either when we get a decent replacement for Tinsley or if he's attached to a bad contract and brings back a solid guard or big guy on short contracts (think Watson/Ridnour & Wilcox).

why do so many want to trade for him then?

he's a hustle rebounder and a solid defender that has added a bit of a jumpshot this year. ultimately the pacers value him because A) he has a reasonable deal B) he plays defense and is an energy guy.

he isn't untouchable but sending an exp. contract doesn't really help us that much. ultimately we need something back besides exp. OR we'd need to pair him up with a hard-to-move contract like tinsley.

Im willing to offer our biggest expiring contract, Kwame Brown, for Foster and filler.

something like Foster, Harrison, Graham for Kwame, Sasha, Mihm, and our 2nd round pick?

Thats laughable. The Pacers don't want an expiring for Jeff Foster.
