Drafting Marvin instead of Paul or Williams was not for the same project. Paul would have been a big improvement and the team would not have got the same picks the following year. The project were not the same. Utah had their team, they sucked one year and got Deron at PG which was their only position to fix. ATL had more positions to fix. The real mistake was Shelden at 5 the following year.
About Marvin, he's only 21, and starts to get his game this year, being more aggressive. He already got almost the same FTA than last season. And his mid-range jump-shoot is starting to be very effective. But you have to see him play some games to understand what player he can be in some years.
But I agree this trade is not what SAC needs with the current roster, but it's not what ATL needs too. I would like to see Bibby with Joe, but not at the price of Marvin.

As an Atlanta fan, picking Marvin over CP3 and Deron was a mistake. However that doesn't mean that Marvin isn't developing into a good player or should be traded for an expensive rental (no way does Bibby get resigned at the end of his current deal at same price). If Bibby was the last piece in a title run it might make sense, but even with him at PG the team is still flawed and is really still a lower level playoff team and a quick exit. BTW, I'm not trying to bash Bibby, he's still a very good player in my eyes. He just makes more than the Hawks can handle for what he provides.
Marvin has another year on his rookie deal. Unless blown away by an offer he'll get the full time to prove his worth before Atlanta has to make a decision on him.

Good point, but you can't talk like that for all the teams. Pistons were already contender, and were and are able to live with that. Cap space and the 15th pick in last draft make more sense in Detroit than anywhere else since they succeed in building a team where the players all wanted to get less than they could, while being able to stay together and have a chance to the Finals is more important than more money (except for Ben Wallace
