if by half way decent, you mean next to none, then yes, there is

So in order to get Portland interested, the Kings would have to take Miles... and not sending back Kenny Thomas (or any other equally bad 3 year contract that they have).

Understandably, that will make a lot of Kings fans less inclined to do this as they still think Sacramento is going to create some cap space for 09 (something I still don't particularly buy myself, but that's neither here nor there).

What about this 3 way trade by including NY?

Portland Trades

It's not bad for

Raef LaFrentz
Darius Miles
Sergio Rodriguez

Portland Receives

Mike Bibby
Malik Rose

Sacramento Trades

Mike Bibby
Kenny Thomas

Sacramento Receives

Raef LaFrentz
Darius Miles
Sergio Rodriguez

NY Trades

Malik Rose

NY Receives

Kenny Thomas

I didn't add extras like picks or cash at this point, but whats the overall feel of this trade for everyone?

it's great for portland (unless sergio blows up), and financially it's good for the Kings...saves them 11-12 million over Thomas's contract.

But the Knicks have no reason to consider it because essentially Thomas's contract is for 2 years longer then Rose's

I'm not sure why you would say that? He is working, but there is no way the team will let him back on the floor without being cleared by their Dr's. I have a feeling the Dr's will probably tell Miles he can't go. He still gets his money, and the team get's a roster spot and cap space. Win/Win

Miles has been cleared to play from what I've heard. He's doing full contact practices and if McMillan felt he could help the team, he could play tomorrow. That said, he's still WAY too rusty and would have to prove he deserves minutes over Webster, Jones and Outlaw.

The chances of him retiring is pretty much nil at this point.

if the doctors were going to tell him he "can't go" they would have already. And I'm sure that portland is in no hurry for him to return to the active roster. I think insurance is still paying his salary but I'm not sure for how long.

And a medical retirement is no simple thing to get. It isn't just Miles's doctors that make the determination, but league doctors as well...at least in relation to absolving portland of the cap-hold of the contract. The process is long, complex, and uncertain.

It was always a long shot, and with Miles back on the floor, it simply isn't going to happen.
