Kings/Magic

Post#1 » by Cruel_Ruin » Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:06 pm

I know I'm going to be crucified by both teams' fans for suggesting this, but I just want to throw out there the possibility.

Kings Out/Magic In:
Kenny Thomas
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
08 First (Top 3 protected)

Magic Out/Kings In:
Carlos Arroyo
Keyon Dooling
Pat Garrity

Kings get under the cap enough so that if Artest walks and Bibby is traded, then they'll have enough capspace to maybe make a splash in FA. Orlando takes on long term salary, but adds a lottery pick in exchange for relatively useless expirings. Kenny can at least still rebound and play defense off the bench and Shareef comes back next year.

This is a bad idea for Sacramento.

No one wants to move Kenny more than I do, but trading lottery picks isn't smart unless you're getting something pretty impressive and a couple of 3rd rate expiring contracts isn't it.

well that would leave the magic with only one pg... and next year we would have SAR, KT, battie, cook, dwight, foyle, auggie as or big men... thats way too much money tied up with too many big man... plus you guys are starting to play well now that everyone is healthy so that means that youre lottery pick will probably be really low....
Summertime and the livin's easy....

The thing is, our lotto pick isn't going to be what we want it to be. If we get far enough under the cap and play the way we are, Sacramento could be somewhat of a desireable destination for Free Agents. If we do this deal and Bibby is traded, we would be so far under the cap that we might be able to sign multiple FAs above the MLE.

Well, the pick from Sacto is going to be a lottery pick in the 11th-14th range. You may lose your backup PG, but there's the possibility of drafting a competent starter there. Though it may be too much money for the Magic.

Plus u gotta factor in the Magic can NOT draft unless they have a top 5 pick, anything other then that and we end up with bust like JJ, Vazquez, Gaines, Sasser, and so on...

Orlando won't do this. Too much terrible salary to take on for a pick in the mid teens.

Why not just
KT + incentive
for
Orlando's worst expiring?

The incentive could be Douby or 2nd or protected 1st or something, but just KT AND Shareef is too much. Trading 1 is much more likely/possible

I disagree somewhat, I think we'll have a legitimate shot at the playoffs and in such case we basically dumped 2 years of cap space for a mid 1st round pick...although this is a deep draft.

I think the Magic would much rather use those expirings and sweeten it themselves if necessary to get better contributors, not take on a pick for an injured SAR and a guy averaging less than 1 basket per game.

Well see. Bibby and/or Artest are still likely to be dealt, so 7-10 is still a strong possibility.

And rebuilding via the draft >>>>>>> rebuilding via free agency.
