Chicago-New York-Portland

Post#1 » by Village Idiot » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:48 am

Chicago trades:

Ben Wallace
Salary: $15,500,000 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 4.5 REB: 8.7 AST: 1.9 PER: 11.80

Adrian Griffin
Salary: $1,593,000 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 2.1 REB: 1.3 AST: 0.8 PER: 10.39

Chicago receives:

Quentin Richardson
Salary: $8,105,500 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 6.6 REB: 4.9 AST: 1.8 PER: 7.31

Darius Miles
Salary: $8,250,000 Years Remaining: 3

$3 million cash from Portland

This is addition by subtraction for the Bulls. Quentin Richardson gives them a big SG who I think would fit nicely in their backcourt. Miles is practicing with the Blazers again and should be ready to return to action. He has apparently matured a lot the past 18 months.

New York trades:

Quentin Richardson
Salary: $8,105,500 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 6.6 REB: 4.9 AST: 1.8 PER: 7.31

Stephon Marbury
Salary: $19,012,500 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 13.9 REB: 2.5 AST: 4.7 PER: 14.36

David Lee
Salary: $990,600 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.4 REB: 7.8 AST: 0.9 PER: 16.78

Malik Rose
Salary: $7,101,250 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.7 REB: 1.9 AST: 0.4 PER: -1.94

New York receives:

Ben Wallace
Salary: $15,500,000 Years Remaining: 3
PTS: 4.5 REB: 8.7 AST: 1.9 PER: 11.80

Jarrett Jack
Salary: $1,217,400 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.5 REB: 2.8 AST: 3.7 PER: 12.32

Adrian Griffin
Salary: $1,593,000 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 2.1 REB: 1.3 AST: 0.8 PER: 10.39

Raef LaFrentz
Salary: $12,440,787 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.9 REB: 1.6 AST: 0.2 PER: 12.14

2008 1st from Portland-lottery protected

The Knicks make this move in an effort to improve the team enough to save Isiah's sorry ass. Jarrett Jack is an upgrade at PG. If Wallace can get interested in the game again he'd be a perfect compliment to both Randolph and Curry. The Knicks also save quite a bit of money by making this deal. They send out $5 million more than they receive giving them a savings of $10 million including the luxury tax. Next year the savings are closer to $14 million! They also get a mid-round 1st from the Blazers in this upcoming draft.

Portland trades:

Jarrett Jack
Salary: $1,217,400 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.5 REB: 2.8 AST: 3.7 PER: 12.32

Raef LaFrentz
Salary: $12,440,787 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.9 REB: 1.6 AST: 0.2 PER: 12.14

Darius Miles
Salary: $8,250,000 Years Remaining: 3

2008 1st to New York-lottery protected

$3 million cash to Chicago

Portland receives:

David Lee
Salary: $990,600 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 9.4 REB: 7.8 AST: 0.9 PER: 16.78

Malik Rose
Salary: $7,101,250 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 1.7 REB: 1.9 AST: 0.4 PER: -1.94

Stephon Marbury
Salary: $19,012,500 Years Remaining: 2
PTS: 13.9 REB: 2.5 AST: 4.7 PER: 14.36

Portland does this to clear out even more salary prior to 2009 when Marbury and Roses' contracts expire. They would both be bought out to create more roster space for Rudy Fernandez and another young player. David Lee fills a need as an athletic rebounder off the bench.

Bleh, adds salary and Richardson wouldn't sniff the floor with the way Thabo's been playing recently.

Better to plant Wallace on the bench and not increase salary.

NY knows full how well Ben Wallace has been playing...and Jarrett Jack (who I'm guessing is the "enticement") is a backup PG and therefore is not needed. I'll pass for NY. No reason to include David Lee in this package.

At this point, a buyout looks like the best option for Chicago with Ben Wallace. I doubt the team does it for political and financial reasons, however, when considering on the court and realistic trade options, it would be for the best.

Why buy him out? You lose the option to trade his contract as an expiring in a couple seasons.

Might as well just use him as he should be used right now (for the Bulls); off the bench in limited capacity.
