$3 million cash from Portland
This is addition by subtraction for the Bulls. Quentin Richardson gives them a big SG who I think would fit nicely in their backcourt. Miles is practicing with the Blazers again and should be ready to return to action. He has apparently matured a lot the past 18 months.

2008 1st from Portland-lottery protected
The Knicks make this move in an effort to improve the team enough to save Isiah's sorry ass. Jarrett Jack is an upgrade at PG. If Wallace can get interested in the game again he'd be a perfect compliment to both Randolph and Curry. The Knicks also save quite a bit of money by making this deal. They send out $5 million more than they receive giving them a savings of $10 million including the luxury tax. Next year the savings are closer to $14 million! They also get a mid-round 1st from the Blazers in this upcoming draft.

Portland does this to clear out even more salary prior to 2009 when Marbury and Roses' contracts expire. They would both be bought out to create more roster space for Rudy Fernandez and another young player. David Lee fills a need as an athletic rebounder off the bench.

NY knows full how well Ben Wallace has been playing...and Jarrett Jack (who I'm guessing is the "enticement") is a backup PG and therefore is not needed. I'll pass for NY. No reason to include David Lee in this package.

Why buy him out? You lose the option to trade his contract as an expiring in a couple seasons.
Might as well just use him as he should be used right now (for the Bulls); off the bench in limited capacity.
