Been a while: Detroit/Utah

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Sat Jan 20, 2018 2:26 pm

Haven't posted a trade in a VERY long time:

Detroit trades: Henry Ellenson/Luke Kennard
Detroit acquires: Rodney Hood/Raul Neto

Utah trades: Rodney Hood/Raul Neto
Utah acquires: Henry Ellenson/Luke Kennard

Why for Detroit: Hood gives them the perimeter scoring they need at 2/3. He needs re-signed, but Detroit should be able to find something workable. He's also insurance in case they can't find a deal with Avery Bradley. Neto would give them a decent backup PG while Jackson is out.

Why for Utah: Kennard replaces Hood for this year and could eventually become the backcourt mate for Donovan Mitchell. And he fits Utah's scheme as a shooter/passer. Ellenson is a cheap big man who can stretch the floor some. If the Jazz eventually trade Derrick Favors, Ellenson could be worth a look next to Rudy Robert in some lineups.

I like Rodney, he hits the 3 at a high volume.

That being said I think this is to much for him. Hes going to need to be resigned and who knows how much that will cost.

I would say change Ellenson for Moreland and its really something for Detroit to think about.

Not even close, Kennard looks good and just starting that rookie deal. Pistons fans are ready for Bradley to just walk at this point and start Kennard

I don't think Detroit does that, they probably don't want to give up on their lottery pick this early. If the Jazz truly want to trade Hood, this is not a bad offer.

I got
Kennard > Hood
Ellenson> Neto

Don't mind fits but I think value wise Detroit would decline

I love the idea of Hood on Detroit, but I'm with everyone else on the price being too high. I don't think he brings back Kennard at this point.

Also and more importantly good to see you Smitty.

Yeah, I'm definitely liking Kennard.

I think a guy like him who can shoot the three ball who's going to be cheap for a few years is more valuable than this.

This is more towards fair value. I actually like it for both teams.

Not really sure what trading Hood for two guys that don't look like rotation players does for us. The OP is too rich for us and Kennard really isn't a fit anyway assuming Mitchell plays at the 2 primarily, but that's too far in the other direction.

Not sure Pistons would take on or feel anymore pleasant paying Hood than Utah given our cap situation anyways

Props to OP for putting together a solid trade BUT

Kennard isn't being traded. He is looking good and is on the start of his rookie deal. Detroit needs to wait and see what they have with him unless a crazy deal presents itself. Go ahead and switch Stanley Johnson for Kennard and you might have something (admittedly this probably tips the scales the other direction as Johnson hasn't looked good and is in year 3).

We have no need for Favours and having to pay Hood lowers his value. I doubt either of those guys could fetch a lotto pick (Kennard isn’t too far removed form being one) plus shedding Marjanovic’s deal doesn’t change our position much as we are hard capped. Another aspect to consider is the trajectory of the Pistons season which is trending down. If this team looks like it’s going to miss playoffs SVG will probably get fired and we will tank, meaning we want young assets like Ellenson and Kennard. We are simply bad trading partners

Another easy no from Utah. Not anywhere near fair value for the Jazz.

I think you're underrating Kennard. Especially factoring in that he's on his first year of his rookie deal and Hood is about to get paid.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Kennard is already better than Hood on both sides of the floor. This makes no sense for Detroit.

Kennard has better FG%, 3ptFG%, eFG%, TS%, much better DPM and OPM, and he is a rookie, controled for several years while Hood will have to get paid in a few months.

Rejecting a lotto pick in Kennard for an expiring Hood is mystifying
