POR/DET/PHI/CHA - Portland Pushes all in

Idea is:

Portland pushes all in. Dame/Powell/Grant/RoCo/Simmons (Yes, I'm playing Simmons at center).

Pistons get a great return on investment for Grant. Those top 5 protected picks that far out for this Blazer team that may implode have a lot value.

Sixers get CJ + 2 firsts for Simmons, I think that's fair.

Hornets give a non-lotto first for a starting center, I think Nurk is worth that much. Zeller needs to be signed and traded to work. I don't think he'll get more than this, but he's a good backup big in Portland.

I'm not sure I would do this for Portland given how unprotected those picks are, but this is the type of deal that would make Dame happy.

Count me in on a lottery protected 1st for Nurk, as long as it can never convey as a lottery 1st and turns into 2nds if we don't make the playoffs over the next couple years rather than go unprotected. With any luck, it won't matter, but I tend to worry about the worst case scenario when it comes to this team.

I love the resulting Blazers squad here, the switchability defensively is very intriguing provided you have a coach that can make it all work. Hopefully Chauncey knows what he's doing defensively.

I think that's fair if Detroit is okay with it.

If Philly would do Simmons for CJ + 2 1sts, I would target Christian Wood instead of Grant personally. Better shooter/fit with the roster imo.

True but I actually had Zeller with value for Portland. I think you need at least one solid big that can start for you in certain matchups, and Zeller was that.

I suppose they could try to sign him with their TPMLE so they won't have to get hardcapped. Then fill out the rest with minimum guys. Would Zeller take 5 million? At that point I think he may go somewhere else.

Or they could look for some other big. I would need to see who is available...

In the ideal scenario I agree. But I think other GMs know Portland is in desperation mode, so I think they may have to overpay a bit, especially since this deal is quite complicated.

Also not sure if Nurk is happy playing a bench role. But I'd love to keep him and move him down the line since it's theoretically just preserving some value.

From the sound of it, I am not keen to get rid of Nurkic. He was looking pretty decent expanding his range to 3 this year, he's gotten better each of the past couple seasons in that regard and so I feel fine projecting him to continue adding that to his game. To me he has more value than a lottery protected 1st rounder anyways, he is a two way starting caliber center - others can disagree and not want to give up more value than that due to injury concerns but that's where I land on it that I would prefer to send out a future pick and keep him.

I would likely roll with Simmons at the 5 in end of game scenarios and Nurkic's minutes need to be kept low since he is still foul pron so I don't see those two as incompatible at all in a starting 5, but a smart coach would stagger their minutes for the bulk of the game.


If we can get Grant and don't trade Nurkic that maybe frees us up to send RoCo to Philly along with CJ instead of the extra pick? Again, I'm shooting a little blind here so I could be missing some important factor here.
