Bucher is confused. Phil had a grand slam
at the local Denny's where the deal was signed.

Melo has both a NTC and a trade-kicker. Add in Melo's age and salary (including the trade-kicker), and I just have a hard time imagining a scenario where he can be traded before he becomes an expiring contract.

Danny Ainge is sitting there with a ton of picks that need to be used or traded by tomorrow. If Phil were to go to Melo and tell him they were entering a rebuild, I suspect that Melo would agree to be traded to Boston. They won 48 games last year and badly need a No. 1 scorer.

I think Phil already tried what you suggested when we spent all of May pretending that we would be hiring Rambis--whose career coaching record is worse than Scott's--to "coach." Melo didn't blink, stating repeatedly that he wants to remain a Knick.

Given this, any deal would have to be exceptionally enticing to Melo...and to the receiving team...and to the Knicks as well. Again, just don't see it happening, particularly to the Celtics (who even with Melo would not be a legit contender for the championship).

I guess the Knicks could buy a second round pick for Isaiah Whitehead, use their $31 Million in cap space after keeping cap holds for Lance Thomas and Langston Galloway and just get the best shooters they could find in free agency (Kent Bazemore 4 years starting at $16 Million, Courtney Lee 4 years starting at $12 Million), trade a TPE, future second rounder or two for Devin Harris (for when Rose gets hurt) and use the cap MLE on Guillermo Hernangomez...

C-Kristaps Porzingis/Kyle O'Quinn/Guillermo Hernangomez
PF-Carmelo Anthony/Vet Minimum/Lou Amundson
SF-Kent Bazemore/Lance Thomas/Vet Minimum
SG-Courtney Lee/Isaiah Whitehead/Justin Holiday
PG-Derrick Rose/Devin Harris/Langston Galloway

I don't know which vet minimums make the most sense there as roster filler, though.
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

Yeah, it's not like it's a disaster for the Knicks. It's just a bad use of assets imo. Lopez was/is an asset. The rest of this trade is bodies passing in the night

Huge win for the Bulls. I also thought they might have to add value to move Rose. getting Lopez is huge IMO.

I love how Lopez played with us, he was by far our most consistent player night in and night out. Plays solid defense, not a liability shooting free throws and for the "pundits" of RealGM he really wasn't much of a starter in this changing league. Lopez shouldn't be a hold up in a potential chance at Rose. I think we all know that Rose won't ever be THAT Rose again, but how sad it is he does represent an upgrade at the point guard spot for us.

The trouble is if he plays like he did last year you didn't really upgrade

Yes folks Calderon was just that bad for us, yes folks that's how pathetic our PG situation was that even a broken down Rose whose a shell of himself does indeed represent an upgrade. Calderon can't push the pace, he can't defend nor can really facilitate the game anymore. He's not a starter in this league anymore, he's a 15 minute player tops at this stage.

On the brightside, this will hopefully help the business side of the Knicks, you know, like sales and stuff.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I still can't believe the Bulls got such a nice haul on that trade. Lopez is solid and on a great contract, he'll be awesome for them. They also get a PG to develop in Grant while putting the ball in Butlers hands. This is a very Knicks move, not terrible but you can kinda see what they were thinking. This all looks better if they can hit on a FA center. Then they can have a playoff(ish) team next season. I can imagine a: Rose/Lee/Melo/KP/Noah line up

is it a lock thats its a PG upgrade? I mean he was far and away a much more negative impact player last year then calderon. rose will score more, make more plays, but it will also be on a ton more shots, a bunch more empty possesions, negatively effect spacing while he is on the floor, and with less assists/offense creation. more talent doesnt always mean mroe positive impact.

last year only 4 PG's had a worse negative impact then rose and calderon wasnt one of them

he is an incredible upgrade over every PG the knicks had since marbury.

What the people questioning this trade for the Knicks don't realize is that those two video clips are Calderon's highlights for the year.

He was often worse. Far worse. (Ironically, when you watch Rose's highlight videos from last season--several of which have been posted to the Knicks board--Calderon is often the defender. In other words, Calderon last year even made Rose look good! :D :banghead:)

I'm surprised people think the Knicks got reamed in this deal. I think they'll be a better team for having made this move.
