This was the bit of good news that I really needed today! I'm glad that Motie is back in Houston and that this is now finally over and done with.

If this was to be their offer, I don't understand why Brooklyn didn't do this in the summer when Houston were still chasing free agents, they had a better chance then. Brooklyn's management work seems like amateur hour, they just facilitated Morey a deal he couldn't negotiate himself.

That's one whale of a lot of upside with a pretty moderate risk.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Playing the long game. Soon they'll be literally the only team with space then BOOM. KD to Brooklyn

That was my point. Teams already spent like drunken sailors last summer and now Houston is off the board as well.

I don't think anyone took them serious this previous off-season. And this was an opportunity to hopefully strike that didn't work out.

You look at the offers that they made to Crabbe, Johnson, and now Motiejunas. They are trying to land young guys with upside that haven't hit yet. I don't think this was their offer for Donatas in the preseason, I'm not even sure that they were interested in him then.

Well they should have been interested in him rather than offer contracts to Booker, Lin or Scola. They don't have good picks or youth to develop so taking a flier on a 25 year old is as close as they can get to development in the next few years.

Read on Twitter

I had postulated potential bad blood between Motie and the Rockets earlier. Should I read anything into this?

If any RFA can refuse to show up for the physical after getting matched, the whole RFA system would crash to the grounds.

The NBA needs to penalize Motiejunas somehow if it is proven that he knowingly and purposely missed his physical in an attempt to get out of his matched deal from Houston.

Probably at this point. From his quotes and social media it seemed he was fine in Houston but maybe something changed. Maybe something happened and prevented him from making it. It doesn't look good right now. Houston can put him back on the RFA market if he chooses not to show up. Hard to see him getting that deal again after this though

Woj said he signs going to report to Houston. If Houston puts him back on the market he can't sign with the Nets for a year. He might not be in the NBA for awhile. This was a stupid move.

I'm going through the CBA now to see what real options there are here. I'm not finding any that are good for either side really, but less good for Motiejunas than Houston.

Motiejunas laying the blueprints for getting out of RFA.

Future RFA should just do this until they get onto a team they want.

I'd spend just a little bit more time thinking this over. It feels like you aren't taking some really important factors into consideration here.

Nba isn't going to want the Rockets to let him go back on the market because of this
