Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 4.0
I think what people forget about Simmons is that he's grown to a top 30 player in a few years in spite of playing second fiddle in an awkward fit his entire career.
There are many examples of obvious awkward fitting stars breaking out on a new team. If you followed Simmons you would know how awesome he can play with Embiid out for stretches of time.
I think Morey knows this better than anyone with Harden and he's probably trading Simmons based on the value he expects the other team is about to get rather than what Simmons deserves based on his Philly play alone

I have two teams (Bucks and Nets) and potentially a third (Warriors depending on what Klay looks like though even Draymond is close) with three players on their team better than Simmons. Am I missing anyone?
I think I'd rather have a "worse" player on paper who can score and doesn't disappear in the playoffs (and isn't getting paid like a #1 to pass up wide-open dunks and have 1-point games).

I think Conley might be in the discussion with Simmons (assuming he plays similarly to last season).

***maybe*** the Jazz and Suns. Depends on how you feel about Ayton and Conley, respectively. I think Utah is better with Conley than Simmons, but Simmons is probably the better player now (certainly long term). I think I prefer Simmons to Ayton for Phoenix, but could be persuaded either way. I do have Paul, Booker, Mitchell, and Gobert all as better players, some by larger margins than others.

I don't have Simmons in the top 30 though....

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 4.0
A guy who is an all-star every year and has been on all-D and all-NBA teams is much more likely to be top 30 than not. But everyone already knows that. His trade value is down because of all the drama, but not his actual basketball game.
I know this league fetishizes shooting, but there are plenty of other guys who are top 30 players who don't shoot either.

He's close. But I have guys like Murray, Sabonis, Mitchell, Jrue, KAT, and Draymond still beating him out. You could argue top 30... but it's closer to that 30 mark than that 20 mark.

I don't agree that drama is the only reason his trade value is down. I'd imagine his terrible playoff performances are also scaring teams off.

His playoff performances aren't quite as terrible as the narrative is one problem with that. All they really tell us is what we already knew when he was making the all-NBA team--that you need another perimeter shot creator to close games for you. Simmons should not be in that role.
The problem is that was already baked into our evaluation of him. Now people want to deduct it again. Because if that wasn't an issue before, he wouldn't have been a top 30 player, he'd have been a 2-way superstar.

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 4.0
Props to Gerald Green. Because I think we'd all have been stunned after his first 4 or 5 years that anyone would hire him to be a player development guy. He was once the poster child for wasted physical gifts. But after washing out of the league he went and put in the work and salvaged some solid role playing years. And clearly showed the Rockets something about his work and character in the process.

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 4.0
Tim MacMahon with a wild story today on the Hoop Collective. He says its a fact that Chandler Parsons had more power than Donnie Nelson during his 2 years in Dallas.
So I guess my belief in the Mark/Donnie/Rick/Dirk leadership group has been utterly crushed. Because while Harlabob clearly has whatever various motivations for his comments, Timmy Mac usually isn't just saying stuff to say it.
Thought that one's wild. I do remember Parsons calling himself a great recruiter and being heavily involved in the Jordan fiasco, but I thought that was mostly okay this guy hits the clubs with the other players and is friends with lots of them or whatever. So Cuban was using him in free agency. But more influence than Donnie? Wild.
My little Mavs world is shattering.

How many picks would the T'Wolves need to add to Beverley and Prince to get Siakam?
How many picks would the Raptors need to add to those picks to turn Prince and Dragic into Ben Simmons?
Who are the best players that Toronto could get for Beverley and Philly could get for Prince?

I don't have Minnesota conceding the Ben Simmons sweepstakes to Toronto.
Between these three teams, I think a trade like this makes some sense-
PHI - Simmons, filler for Dragic, Prince, Boucher, picks
MIN - Prince, Bev, McDaniels, picks for Simmons
TOR - Boucher, Dragic, heavily protected pick for Bev, McDaniels, filler
But the picks, combined with Philly's assets go out for a star level guard later in the year.

The picks on that would be unimaginable
Morey doesn't want role players, and this trade is succeeding on that (those players might be worse than standard role players)

What about something like...
Simmons and Bagley to Raptors
Siakam and Reed to Kings
Hield, Dragic and even more picks than the rumored Portland request with McCollum via the other teams

i really wanted charlotte to draft him and his early play has just annoyed me more. we dont have a playable backup 5 but we drafted a monk replacement instead.
