I think the Bulls got solid value for Rose considering. Grant's a nice young player and Lopez is clearly a starting level big, on a good contract.
The question is though, as it is with any other Rose trade scenario, what was the point? Where does it get us? We didn't make the playoffs last season and we deduct Gasol, Noah and Rose from that.
Are the Bulls in a better position to compete post-trade? I don't think so. You could argue that Lopez is more productive than Rose, or more productive than Noah, at this stage of their careers, so that's a bonus, but my point is that with all the inevitable losses, plus the decline of guys like Gibson, it seems clear to me that the writing is on the wall for a full rebuild.
I'd be a big fan of the trade if we were trading Butler also, but it doesn't appear that that's the intention of the front office. So, as it stands right now, I'm pretty meh on the whole thing, and overall, s****y, given the emotional attachment of the trade.

I think this deal gives the Bulls the option to build around Butler. If they upgrade the back court, I think they can build a decent play-off team. While Calderon isn't great for a starting PG, I think he looks pretty good as a 3rd guard.

They can definitely build an on-paper playoff team again, but then again, last seasons Bulls team was an on-paper 2nd-seed team, so I'm scared to do any assuming. Best case scenario, I think we get back on the treadmill. You can add pieces, but ultimately, there's no major assets to boost this teams ceiling.
Bulls fans are mentally exhausted. I can only speak for myself, but I'd rather cash in assets for Butler and co. and start from scratch than continue to try winning without all of the 'old guard'.
As for Calderon, by the sounds of Knick fans, he's completely washed up by this point.

Honestly, Rose pretty much seems to be too. They got a solid center and a recent first round pick for a guy who was pretty awful and leaving anyway. This was a steal for Chicago to me.

Merging into here everyone's threads
So part of the benefits for this deal was supposed to be freeing up long term salary. Salary space we just wasted by spending more money than Lopez would have cost to sign his replacement. A replacement coming off of a bad year no less.

Knicks are going to Knick.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential
and still be treated as if you were reasonable.
