Dallas accepts. To get an allstar, one of the best SFs in the league for bench parts and an inevitably low pick is a no brainer really. We become one of the league's best teams with the addition of Shawn:
E Dampier/??/N Fazekas
D Nowitzki/B Bass/Ju Howard
S Marion/D George/J Stackhouse
J Howard/J Stackhouse/E Jones
D Harris/J Barea
We would also like to announce that we are looking for both a vet C and PG to backup Dampier and Harris. Juwan Howard, Devean George, Stackhouse and Jones are all available for a backup PG.
BTW, clyde or bryant, can one of you show me a list of available FAs?

And b4 the Phoenix GM can interject that he will cut X number of players he just aquired I will also point out that roster spots must be cleared b4 hand in order for the trade to be approved.
I agree with the Knicks GM. Also, Dallas hasn't even posted its roster yet.
EDIT: If it wasn't already clear, I also veto the deal.

Yep, thats the rule. Players must be cut BEFORE the trading for new ones. So Phoenix has some work to do.

I've figured out how to avert such issues. The deal is to be divided into 2 parts. Part 1 is the same as before except that Sean Marks is taken out of it.
Part 1 (PHX/DAL/HOU):
Note: PHX cuts Eric Piatkowski before this deal [takes them down to 11 men, but this is allowed for 2 weeks]
Dallas Outgoing
Jason Terry-8,898,000

DJ Strawberry-427,123
Darrel Armstrong-770,610
DAL sends:
TE worth 1,968,343 [from Anthony Johnson Trade of 2007]
With the modifications, the talent implications for the teams are still the same, except for the fact that teams now have the correct number of players. Phoenix and Dallas have 15 while Houston has 14 after the Patterson pickup.
As there is no real difference between the previously posted trade and this one except technicalities, I see no reason for all of us to need to accept again. But just for the hell of it, Dallas accepts.

Still doesn't work. The reason is that Phoenix needs to cut players BEFORE the trade even takes place.
In the first trade, phoenix is trading 2 players and getting 8 in return. If for example, Phoenix's roster before the trade is 14 players, they'll need to waive 6 players before being able to bring the 8 new players in. No matter how you slice it, phoenix will need to cut 6 players before accepting the 8 new players into the roster.
Even though pehinix is sending 3 players to Dallas as part of the 2nd trade, it'll need to cut players before the first trade goes through. You can't work it out this way.

Yes you can. The deal is not to happen later, they are to happen consecutively. Thus PHX is never really over the roster limit. The 2nd part could in reality be written as part of the first trade except that the TE can't be combined so that's why it has to be done in a second, consecutive trade.

Oh god I move to veto that because its plain awful for the Clippers. Brand+Thornton >>>>>Beasley/Rose/Mayo/whoever
i veto a well. considering the fact that the pick order hasn't even been determined yet, this could be the 10th pick when its all said and done. This reminds me of a deal the Celtic GM did when he traded his first round pick to Dallas for Nowitzki and another player. Turned out later that the pick went only as high as the 5th pick and the mavericks were left a bloody mess.
I veto.

Looking at that trade, I think that trading Thornton ON TOP of Elton Brand is just ridiculous. It would've been fair without Thornton but seriously he was a lotto pick last year, essentially you are trading one of the league's best PFs to move up a bit in the draft.
But then again, loflin is an LAC fan but I really think that this deal would blow for LAC

How is the trade fair even without Thornton? For all we know, Minnesota could get some more wins and end with the 4th or 5th worst record. And if that happens, Minnesota could potentially slip even more in the lottory. I don't think this trade would be fair until after the draft order is determined. Even if its a first pick, the trade is really a tossup.

i think loflin3hree5ive is taking elton brand's possible opt out into consideration. if the wolves continue to suck, he could have just gotten the number one overall pick for a player he was going to lose for nothing. yeah he should have held on to al thornton, especially since the wolves are already loaded at the wings and the clips could be left with nothing there too (magz opt out), but thats just part of one gm getting the better deal. two top ten picks to go along with livingston's return and kaman's breakout season is a real plan. the financial benefits also can't be overlooked. i think this is a gm that is looking at team's around the league and recognizes that building a contender around brand may not provide a long enough window to be successful.

i dunno man, i mean brand is injured and expiring. there are talks of philly wanting to sign him and they have the capspace to do it. so why lose him for nothing instead of a lotto pick?
i can sort of see the reasoning of brand for lotto pick but i definitely cant see the reasoning of adding thornton on top

Elton has gone on record and said he doesn't intend to opt out this off-season. So I don't think is a move preventing him from leaving for nothing. Like I said, it could turn out to be as ugly it turned out for the dallas GM who thought he was trading Nowinski and another player for the no.1 overall pick to land Oden only to find out on lottory day that his pick is no.5. Don't tell me dumping someone like Nowinski for a Corey Brewer is a smart move.

that trade isn't all that great for the wolves when u analyze it. i'm vaguely familiar with the current wolves financial situation but they are going to be riding the lux tax line even if they let ratliff expire. with brand's huge contract, they're going to be paying HUGE money for a team with two big men that can't guard a center at all. also, the wolves gm has a lot of work to do because if we were to project into the finale of this game, its perfectly fair to assume brand would not want to stay in minny either.
