If we want him, why not just pursue in free agency?

The Sixers would value Covington more than any piece coming back to them.

Dekker has been just as good as Covington's best year so far and FAR better this year.

Far overboard. You make it sound as if there's no argument Covington has been better than Dekker this year. Covington has been much better defensively while Dekker has been much better offensively. We can talk about how to weigh the different sides of the ball, but in no way is it as clear as you seem to think.

Dekker has been as good as you can reasonably expect a rookie to be on defense. Young players are typically bad at defense. When Dekker is 26 he will probably be better than Covington is now. I don't see why you would rather have the 4 year older guy on the Sixers if they're admittedly similar. We are talking about value. Dekker is more valuable than Covington. Easily.

I honestly feel like the best deal at this point is Nerlens Noel for Brandon Knight straight up with no fillers. Noel could really benefit learning under a professional veteran like Tyson Chandler and Knight's skill set could work in Philadelphia. I think Phoenix would make a follow up deal where they send out P.J. Tucker and Alex Len for the best possible return, but have no clue what they would want/need in return.
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

The extreme POV's on Noel continue to fascinate me. I'm trying to think of another player much less one of his relative insignificance who was ever this divisive.

Doesn't Knight have the worst plus minus total in the entire NBA right now?

Because you made the bolded statement that doesn't pass any logical test. I didn't say anything about value.

Maybe I'm underrating Covingtons defense, I didn't know it was much better than last year's until I looked at the numbers but Dekker has been about as good overall and is much younger .

I feel like just because Knight isn't working in Phoenix doesn't mean he can't work in the right system. He strikes me as a player that needs the specifically right opportunity to flourish, but could do so if given that opportunity and Philly has pieces that could make sense around him especially when all they give up is the chance to overpay an unhappy Nerlens Noel in the off-season.

Knight has pretty much failed on three teams now, though. How many systems does he need to understand he's not a star and he's not a PG?

Wiz give UNPROTECTED 1ST...Nicholson and burke for noel and illyasova or covington....

Why?

Because we have the best back court in the league this solidifies our frontcourt for a deep playoff run...

Gortat and or mahinmi can be traded for a late 1st if needed but we need some quality talent downlow...

Other than oubre we haven't had any success from our picks in the last 6 years that are not top 3...noel with wall beal and Porter would make us monster in the east only 2nd to the cavs
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

His defense was great last year too - he graded 3rd for SFs in DRPM last season and is grading 2nd this season. He's also leading the NBA in deflections per game with 4.5 (just ahead of Draymond).

There's a lot of ignorance when it comes to Noel's talent. Most people just look at his stats last year and don't consider the situation he was in. He was forced to play out of position for a significant amount of his minutes last year next to one of the worst players in the NBA. Instead of furthering his development as a rim protector, he was forced to chase around stretch 4s and figure out how to function next to a high usage, ball-stopping black hole.

Look at his splits though:

He improved significantly from his rookie season when you consider his minutes played without Okafor. He is a very legitimate player/prospect when put in a position to succeed.

How about Reggie Jackson for noel even up?

Why for Philly: Jackson can play both guard positions and brings scoring. He also is on a decent contract that will only get better with the new CBA. He is also a piece that can be moved later for assets once Simmons is ready to take over PG duties.

Why for Detroit: I think Aaron Baynes is going to decline his player option and become a free agent in the off season, so the Pistons are in need of a Center (Boban is fun to watch but I have doubts he can play heavy minuets). I don't think the Pistons are going any place with the current make up (this year or in the future) and moving Reggie gives them some cap space to make some changes. We played well enough with Ish and Udrih as our PG's so It wont be a huge problem.

That is a bold move, But why do you figure it gives you cap space enough to make changes, unless you let Noel walk

1. while he defends well as a big, He does not bring much to the table offensively. A lot of fans don't think that is a big detraction.

2. He has not played the 5 enough games due to injuries for some fans to feel he will hold up long term at 220lbs, other fans cite this.

3. Some fans think he is worth matching any offer you throw at him in FA this summer, At least one fan does not :D

4. His injury history, some fans say it was one big injury, other point that he lost 2 seasons.

5. You think he is just trying to shoot his way out of town, after BC told him that he would move one of them this summer and that he is not a guy that needs to be catered to.

So, if the rest of your teams scores well, and you have a need at center, you think he only had one injury in college, and that the game has changed enough so that centers don't bang down low, you think Noel is worth 22 mill to your team. He is worth a mid lottery pick.

If you think he offers no positional flexibility, your team needs the 5 to contribute offensively, while thinking that at 220 lbs he is going to get abused long term, and may break down physicaly, you think his value is along the lines of 15-18 mill and is a diva he is worth a late first.

How many of the 5 boxes you check determins his value to yourself.

I'd do it, but it wouldn't be for cap space as KCP and Noel are RFA's with cap holds that leave up capped out. We'd have to trade Baynes for a ROS point guard as well, both to open up minutes at the five for Noel and because Ish and Beno are not big minute players.

I don't think our plan would be to keep Noel long term, but rehab his value a bit and then try and trade him for a new long term point guard starter.

Rubio isn't a fit for the Sixers...if he were a lock down defender or a knock down shooter, then you'd have an interesting discussion. Simmons will have the ball in his hands, so another 'ball in his hands' player is not an ideal fit. They would be crazy to give up on Dunn (Noel + a protected pick) but Jones may be a more interesting guard from the Wolves roster.

I think Rubio was being mentioned as a similarly divisive player, not as a trade candidate.
