Can't see that working for the Clips. They would have no #1 option next season.

Unless they want to force feed Simmons shots or tank for a season and let Kawhi fully recover to challenge for 2023.

Yeah its not great.

Stein reporting Cleveland is trying to stay in the Simmons mix.

Feels like Rubio has to be in their outgoing to make the money work--but 3rd team right?
Garland would figure to be the main value piece over Sexton, right?
Then Osman? Who is negative.

So Rubio and Osman to a 3rd team for a win now piece?
Cleveland also adds draft compensation?

Not to denigrate Cleveland (I'm a Browns & Guardians fan and one day I may renew my Cavs fan status), but I HOPE that Simmons gets sent to Cleveland or OKC or some smaller market like that.

I don't want him to make his way to a glamour market out of this.

There was a report earlier in the week that Simmons is okay with Cleveland as a destination because of his relationship with Garland and him being clutch, I think it’s sexton, love, picks to be honest. Like everyone is acting like love makes no sense behind Embiid. Cut Drummond immediately because there’s no role for him and let love get 20-25 mpg when Embiid plays and 32-36 when he rests?

Having Love on the books as a 29m backup center in another year when Sexton comes due for a raise would be harsh to deal with; and probably a 50m+ tax bill in and of itself.

Rubio makes a lot more sense than Love; both financially and positionally.

Simmons (33m)
for
Rubio 18m (can be aggregated in 3 days), Sexton 6m, with Osman (8m + 7m next year) going elsewhere would have both Philly and Cleveland just under the tax. Obviously there is jostling for picks/value and needs to be motivation for someone to take Cedi.

So, something like:

Phi out: Simmons, Phi 22 1st
Phi in: Rubio, Sexton, Cle '22 1st; Cle 24 1st

Cle out: Rubio, Sexton, Cedi Cle '22 1st; Cle 24 1st
Cle in: Simmons

OKC out Cap space
OKC in: Cedi and worst of Phi/Cle '22 1st.

With everyone getting to go nuts over what protections and if in fact Ben Simmons is the worst player in the league.

Edit: I think this is the first Simmons trade I have posted in these threads?}

While Sexton/Garland pieces are win-now for Philly, if their intention is to land a Lillard or Beal, they want Mobley for a team to rebuild around.

The Cavs are looking at buying out Kevin Love. Kevin Love cannot stay healthy and is owed more than $60,000,000 over the next two years. If they can dump him on any team, it would be a major win for the Cavs. Love is 6"8". If he is your team's back-up center then your team needs a new back-up.

Drummond is making the NBA minimum.

Mobley as the centerpiece makes more sense both from Philly's perspective (more appealing to flip later) and Cleveland's (they can play Love/Markkanen at the 4, then it's just Simmons and Allen who can't shoot from outside in the starting lineup). It also makes the Markkanen signing make a TON more sense.

This.

I read the article and was scratching my head.

CLE is already crazily overloaded with bigs that are not shooters and small guards. IF (and this is the same IF that I have for him in SAC) Simmons can be shifted to the SF spot, there is still the major issue of him not being a shooter. And there is not a realistic way to out him at the PF spot because they are already super overloaded with post guys.

And I’m not ignoring Markkenan here, but I am waiting to see if he plays more than 50-55 games anyway. He has a bad injury history.

I struggle to see the argument that Philly would want Mobley to flip him.
Maybe in an three team we right away, but being behind Embiid and Tobias is not exactly going to make Mobley get lots of time and there is always the danger you have a fading asset while your team struggles (aka the Wiseman).

If anything Allen should be on the move. He's the one i really question if ben can coexist with.

CLE: Simmons
PHI: Grant, Garland or Sexton, Jackson
DET: Okoro, Rubio
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

That was hashed out early, a bucket of cold water gets thrown on it because of George and Docs relationship.

I think it makes a ton of sense on the court.

Yep. Garland, Allen, and Rubio are the value pieces Cavs should look to flip for Simmons. If you get Simmons you may as well keep Sexton for offense and Okoro for defense.

I just don't see them taking Simmons though.

It's interesting, but tough with Kawhi possibly out for the season.

It was already reported that Garland was the reason Simmons would welcome going to Cleveland so it’s going to be sexton if it happens

I think one area of creativity for Simmons trades that hasn't been explored enough is the production of a 33m TPE for Philly. These trades would involve OKC to some degree but OKC doesn't have to end up with Simmons but merely have interest in taking on some salary.

Example:

SAC give Hield+Mitchell+Hali+Len+SAC22FRP+SAC24FRP
SAC get Simmons+Curry+Springer

Fox, Curry, Simmons, Barnes, Holmes -- Springer, TD2, Harkless, Bagley, TT

PHI give Simmons+Curry+Springer
PHI get Mitchell+Hali+Len+TPE($33m)+SAC24FRP

Hali, Thybulle, Green, Harris, Embiid -- Mitchell, Maxey, Korkmaz, Reed, Drummond

OKC get Hield+SAC22FRP

What's a good 3rd team that'd like Jarrett Allen in a Simmons to Cavs trade?
