The point is McDaniels cannot headline a Mitchell deal. It’s absurd. He has value somewhere in the teens in terms of a pick.

There appears to be an idea out on the board that McDaniels is a dogwater shooter due to how his season started.

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 5.0
I don't know, I kinda feel like there is backlash for Minnesota fans being insufferable last off-season about Jaden McDaniels. The dude is almost 6'11" (he is taller than Karl-Anthony Towns), consistently matches up with the other team's best player (1-4), is a capable (albeit streaky and corner-centric) three-point shooter, and has shown a limited drive game at the age of 21.
Biggest problems to fix:
1. His foul-rate is a massive limiting factor for him defensively.
2. Strength training so he can rebound better and switch onto bigs without fouling.
3. Improve shooting consistency.
4. Play Small-Forward, because he is clearly a Small-Forward.
His height/wingspan (9' standing reach), ability to guard 1-4, and shooting potential makes him a pretty damn solid prospect. We aren't talking about Leandro Bolmaro here. Do I think he can headline a Donovan Mitchell trade? Nah, not a shot, but he isn't a mediocre prospect either.

He has tantalizing measurements and i think he has lots of room to grow. As you said though need to see more from him before he goes into the Bridges/Anunoby zone of headlining for a star

Bridges (assuming Mikal) is a star, no need for headlining for one.

I think McDaniels is pretty clearly a different class of prospect vs Josh Green even though I don't *really* think that's what Chuck was trying to argue
McDaniel's doesn't have a great shooting track record at about 34% on 450 3s but that's significantly better than 31% on 103. Green is a better defender but McDaniels is 6'9 vs 6'5 and has a valuable intersection of shooting-defense-size
That said, he is not a headliner in a Mitchell deal
The bolded is a fully understandable take that I may even be in agreement with.
Good then we can all agree.
I definitely wasn't arguing Green > McDaniels. I used Green specifically because he's seen as a 2nd round pick trade value guy who according to the traits that make McDaniels super valuable has shown more this year. And that's ignoring Green's playmaking that McDaniels lacks.
I'm just saying if Green is worth say pick 40, McDaniels can't be worth say pick 3 which is what the deal in question was essentially valuing him at.

You’re allowed to think that all you want. The reality is hes much much closer to Green or Poku than “the best 3/D prospect in the league” which there’s no evidence of. I mean he shot 31.7% this year, Poku was 28.9. In terms of projection they aren’t too far away, relative to a top flight player.

The year prior McDaniels shot 37%. Did McDaniels all of a sudden forge to shoot?
McDaniels is an already good defensive player, Poku is not.
McDaniels is a better shooter and defender than Poku. You're just trolling at this point and since you're a moderator you get a free pass.

I'm not backseat moderating anything. I am vocalizing a trolling post and stating that I will be reporting. Nothing I am doing is moderating. I see people here took exception to me being high on McDaniels. We will see in a few years how things pan out with Green, Poku and McDaniels in terms of roles in the NBA but at this point McDaniels is the closest to being a sure thing of the 3.

I'd personally take the gamble on Poku as I see him being a lot more than just 3&D....think he can reach what the Warriors once thought Anthony Randolph would be. Once he gets consistent burn, think he is going to take off pretty decently.

I mean i think Poku will be a bust. But damn it will be interesting.
And maybe he scores 16/5/5 a game and wins something big with Fenberhsdhfjsdjhsfj in Europe in 8 years

Re: Thoughts in General, Rumors, etc 5.0
There is so much discussion about defense and prospects on here, and pretty much all in my not so humble opinion is just malarky. And hopes and dreams.
For 6? years Wiggins was called a good defender because he had the [physical] tools.
It takes bigs years to adjust.
It takes smalls years to adjust.
He has the tools.
It doesn't show up in the box score or plus minus, but waTcH this one Utuber clipppppppppsssssssss!!!!
My experience watching prospects is they tend to either start off good,or they never get great.
Thinking of the Sixers, Covington, Noel, Embiid, Thybulle all were monsters on that end immediately. So, 2 centers, a sf/pf and a sg/sf (just because he cannot shoot).
Oh I have seen players get better. It is common to get somewhat better (Wiggins was a fun starting example because he didn't seem to at least at Minnesota).
A ton of the NBA has defensive tools. Jonathan Isaac was injured, but great at defense from the get go. MArcus Smart has been great since the get go.
When was the last time a player was just not at all it and became elite as a defender?
Instead of hyping young guys are 3 and D, I feel like we need some term for "2 and solid". Because that should also be a thing. In fact, more often.

Are we defining “prospect” as “not it right now” so the actual good young “3 and d” players are not being included in the judging and we are only looking at guys that actually aren’t “3 and d” and seeing if they could be one?
