IT's interesting for me to read the majority of posters who are fans of teams who appear on paper to really need a player like Crowder have no interest even when the asking price is dirt cheap. They think he can't really help them or are paranoid he will be unhappy if he isn't starting or whatever. But then to be worried he goes to some other team doesn't really add up. He wouldn't start on Dallas either. They aren't benching DFS to start Crowder.

I will freely admit I want him on Dallas. He fills that niche between DFS/Maxi defensively. And I really don't understand why other fans don't want to give up something minimal to get a guy who remains a solid rotation forward. Not a star. But a quality player.

If Crowder is unhappy with a bench role in Phoenix, it doesn't seem likely that he'll be happy in a bench role elsewhere. And while a ton of teams could use him in a significant rotation role, the number of teams where he's a clear starter is far fewer (especially if you ignore the non-competing teams that don't care about his win-now value). This seems especially true as a late addition where even if he were competing with some other option(s) for a starter role he'd be behind as a late arrival.

IMO the only good team where he's a clear starter is Miami - and they'd have to send out Robinson as matching salary creating real problems.

Crowder might be ok with not starting if there is an extension waiting for him on a new team. Money talks.

Yeah I think he's very aware that if he's not starting this year it's because they're ready to move forward with Cam so he knows they're not using his bird rights

I've spent all this time thinking up EG to the Suns trades when really the rocket they need is Boban. The vibes around that team are absolutely putrid

I was thinking about this but with the cap going up he’s probably looking for something that starts higher than 10.7.

With his age getting up there he’s probably looking for more years too. I’m not sure many teams are crazy about giving him either of those.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I expect him to get 2 years at the MLE [Assuming he plays a role on the team he goes to].

What's the proper pick balance on: Crowder to Miami, Clarkson to Phoenix, Robinson to Utah?

Some additional filler from Phoenix to Miami to make salaries work. Could also be Beasley to Phoenix if that was their preference.

Sounds like Heat fans aren't interested in that concept at any price. But I would say its probably a lightly protected 1st from Miami to Utah and then depending on the specifics, Phoenix will owe Miami or Utah something for the salary they dump--as I don't see Phoenix adding payroll to go from Crowder to Clarkson.

I love the idea of Crowder on the Heat again and Clarkson on the Suns though. Both guys fill holes quite well.

Cap Space

San Antonio and Indiana could absorb Robinson into Cap Space.

OKC, Detroit, Houston and Orlando probably could have put together packages of expiring contracts for Robinson if they had the motivation to do so.

All of the above suggests to me that Miami is either not trying to salary dump Robinson or the incentive that they are willing to attach is deemed to not be enough.

Suns are absolutely right to prioritize Cam Johnson over Crowder.

Crowder wouldn't start in MIami and become a problem. Miami didn't offer Crowder an extension last time. I doubt Miami is making any effort to bring him to the Heat, with or without Robinson.

Reports from training camp indicate Jovic will mostly be in Sioux Falls this season. This is also expected. Yurtseven, on the other hand, may get a lot of play.

Val
Turner
Vuc

For me. All positive value but Val is locked up on a reasonable deal the other two are expiring. I think they are all relatively close but I have Vuc as a clear third .

Is there any way given the current sale of the team that management tries to get below the tax without losing talent at the cost of picks? It seems like they have the picks and the means to get there without losing anything substantial via Spurs or Pacers.

Anything is possible. It sounds like new phx owner could be one of richest in league though, I think Jones is focused on getting most competitive team possible.

2021 draft -- trades gone crazy

Post#1879 » by Fencer reregistered » Wed Oct 5, 2022 11:55 am

Of the last 32 picks of the 2021 draft, 29 were traded, or else had the drafted player's rights quickly traded post-draft.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_NBA_draft

I noticed this because the Celtics had the last of the 3 exceptions, at #45.

Think Suns keep things as is unless its a home run till the new owner comes. Might end up with an owner that can afford the tax.
