I love that fit. Cade being a big PG means you stay insanely switchable, a lot like BOS with the years of mostly playing 2 big combo guard type of PGs at a time (Smart/White/Brogdon/Jrue).

I’ve long thought White is an incredible fit for Cade and Detroit in general.

I’d want Ivey in any deal however, not Duren.

Ivey makes more sense for both sides. Duren's ceiling is too high to trade for Smart.

It’s a good thing Smart isn’t in Boston anymore.

I also think Ivey has the higher ceiling myself. Duren is just a rich man’s rim runner.

I think Duren has good value, but I also think White has the value to pull both Ivey and Duren. Maybe Detroit doesn’t want to consider that, but White could have that value.

The *only* way it makes sense is if someone really unexepected is available, e.g., AD. I still would not want to do it, but at least I would understand a core of Brown/Lauri/Davis/Kessler.

In all seriousness I'm not sure how else they're meant to become competitive. They don't draft well if recent history is anything to go by, and they're a poster child for not relying on lottery luck at this point. They're not a FA draw so improving the team from that perspective is also out. Which only leaves trades.

Not saying I'd go down that path myself but I can sort of see the logic, especially if ownership is beginning to lose their taste for losing.

In all seriousness I'm not sure how else they're meant to become competitive. We keep drafting 10th, it is just a terrible spot to be in if you are rebuilding. We need two years in the top half of the lottery, that is how you build out a team even if you don't get your franchise player through the draft. Brown is, IMO, a good player but overrated and overpaid. We would be Boston with Lauri instead of Tatum, and Collier instead of White. It is divorced from reality to think that is the foundation of a competitive team - we'd just be doing what Sacramento and Chicago do.
