I was confused on the 3/3 thing too. I knew for sure the Hardship Exception was 1 year deals only. I was a little surprised they went with another PG. I thought Canaan and McConnell had played well. Especially McConnell. Did one of them get hurt too?
Philly fans impression of Canaan is similar to their impression of Bynum at this point. I've been more even keeled than most, but here was his power ranking from Tuesday, placing him below the injured Wroten and Marshall:
11) Isaiah Canaan (11) -- Sixers offense is 15.3 points per 100 possessions better when Canaan is not on the floor. Between that and personally shooting 9 for 31, Canaan's stock isn't going anywhere this week.
Looking at it now: 85.4 per 100 with Canaan, 108 per 100 without Canaan, so a 22.6 point per 100 possession gap, and now 9 for 35 personally. Defensively, there is no change on/off so he is just a
small sample net negative of 22.6 points per 100 possessions.
As an update, Brett Brown has decided that Pressey is the backup pg, and Canaan is now a sg backup. Which makes sense, as he cannot set up either big, or handle the ball against good ball pressure (Boston).
“I’m going to bring Isaiah more off the bench as a two (guard), and look at his shooting abilities in that capacity,” said Brown, explaining the decision. “If we’ve seen anything, we’ve seen the league have a very high respect for Jahlil [Okafor] only four games in, where he’s commanding double-teams. So, when teams do that, you need shooters, and Isaiah can shoot. He still will have a significant role.”
