I want Memphis to be good this year SO MUCH. If those guys can stay healthy that's a fantastic, tough, battle-tested playoff team, and I think one that might have a chance at GSW. Everyone talks about how they schemed Allen off the floor, but Allen was also too hobbled that series to punish them for leaving him open—he's normally an excellent cutter. And Draymond actually struggles with big, skilled true centers.
Agreed. I love Memphis team and will be rooting for them. They actually have a drastically different style of play and team structure that could give GSW and SAS a run. Parsons makes so much sense for this team. It will 100% be a matter of: Will Memphis be healthy come April?
Dallas' offseason was quietly good. Quincy Acy and Seth Curry are two GREAT signing. Harrison Barnes is the right high-risk, high reward move that we finally needed to make (and worse-case scenario is we have a young, overpaid 3&D player for the next 4-years). I do think Barnes is capable of more than he's shown, but he's got too far to climb to be an All-Star. Good news is his work ethic is great, he plays good defense and he has a master of a coach (not to mention for the next 2-years, he will have space to operate with Dirk Nowitzki alongside him).
We overpaid for Dwight Powell, but I like him. I wish we got him for 2-million per year less, but this may force us to give him minutes and let him actually develop and work through mistakes. I expect to see a lot of Dwight Powell + Quincy Acy in a small-ball PF-C combo next year. If we throw Justin Anderson at SF (and a lesser extent HB), our rebounding won't suffer too much for minimal stretches.
Justin Anderson is the guy that Dallas really needs to develop. If he can show a consistent touch for the perimeter and improve his defense, Dallas could have a solid rotation with Anderson, Barnes & Matthews at the wings.
Bogut was a great pickup. No need to bang that drum. Excellent move.
I like what we did. We are younger, will still make the playoffs and I'd expect we'll quietly do better than anyone imagines. And, can't forget how amazing it will be to watch Dirk Nowitzki continue to be an efficient leading scorer for this team going on his 19th season in the NBA. It's quite impressive how he's been able to continually be one of the best offensive players in the league, despite his age. Will soak up the next couple of years.
I give the offseason a B. Not landing a big fish forces me to not give it an A rating.
